19331 She was born on June 25, 1920 in Bertha, Minn. to Martha and Fred Sonnenberg, the third of seven children. In her senior year of high school the family moved to Valley City, N.D. After graduating she attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus, where she received her degree in home economics.

She taught for several years in Jasper, Minn. and was also active in directing extracurricular activities.

She married Arnold Rogen, a wonderful gentleman and longtime Jasper area farmer. They had three daughters whom they loved, reared and educated. Alice was a supportive partner in the farm and was active in the Jasper ELCA church, 4H and women’s extension club. She and Arnold loved to golf, dance, play bridge and fish. They retired in 1979 and then spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz. and summers at their Eagle Lake home near Willmar, Minn. After Arnold died, Alice moved to Willamette View Retirement Community in Portland, Ore. near her daughter Betsy and her family. There she continued to embrace life and for many of those twenty one years was busy serving on committees and boards, gardening and leading an active social and cultural life.

She is survived by her daughters, Molly Hodges of Juneau, Alaska, Betsy Elliott of Portland, Ore. and Susan Stewart of Colorado Springs, Colo. and her brother Richard Sonnenberg in California, also by her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

19335 She was called Mary Marlene in the Star’s November 8, 1953, announcement of her engagement. The Winona Daily News had the announcement, with a photo of Mary Marlene, in its December 18th edition.

Marlene M. Ellingboe, age 90, of Baldwin and formerly of Spring Valley, died the evening of Saturday, September 20, 2025 at home, with her family by her side. Marlene was born August 31, 1935, in Winona Minnesota, the daughter of William and Frances (nee Moga) Watembach. Marlene was united in marriage to Delmar on July 31, 1954. Their union in marriage would be blessed with seven children.
Marlene raised her seven children then spent 17 years as CNA at the Parkview Nursing Home in Woodville, WIsconsin. In retirement she volunteered at Treasures From the Heart and the Senior Center in Baldwin. She enjoyed travel, puzzles, playing games, enjoying nature and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Wilson American Legion Post #330 along with Delmar.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Delmar; one brother; and two sons. She is survived by her brother, Tom (Ellen) Watembach; her children, Jeff (Mary Beth) Ellingboe of Minneapolis, Kathy Palmer of Baldwin, Greg (Andrea) Ellingboe of Chandler, Arizona, Jackie (CJ) Hunter of Chandler, Arizona, and Eric (Heidi) Ellingboe of Dubuque, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial for Marlene Ellingboe will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Spring Valley, Wisconsin.
