Her birth year was 1905 in her death certificate.
Her baptism record clearly shows the dates as 4 Dec 1905 and 14 Jan 1906.
An article in the Minneapolis Tribune in June of 1948 talked about her work as a music teacher and included a photo of her and her daughters at the piano. The article said that Mrs. Stepperud had 70-100 pupils and four pianos: one on the porch, two in the dining room, and one upstairs.
Her obit in the Faribault Daily News:
Alma Stepperud, 94, of Kenyon, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at the Milaca Elim Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Church, Kenyon, with the Rev. Guy Redfield officiating. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service at the church. Alma Thoreson, the daughter of Ole and Christine Thoreson, grew up in Dennison and graduated from Kenyon High School and MacPhail College of Music. She taught hundreds of piano, voice and organ students during her career that spanned more than 50 years. She was a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Minnesota Teacher State and National Association, and the Keyboard Club of Rochester. She was an active judge and member of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association since 1933 and had hundreds of winners in the Minnesota State Piano Contest. He registered for the draft in Minneapolis, as Archie Cossett Dunn, on June 5, 1917. He was single and supported his mother. He was a cabinet maker. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair.
He enlisted on 22 Jul 1918 and was released on 9 Dec 1918 according to his BIRLS death file.
According to MOMS, an Archie C Dunn married a Myrtle Taylor in St. Louis County on 10 Jul 1919.
In the 1920 census, he may be the Archie Dunn, 31, who lives in Maywood, Cook County, Illinois, where he is an office clerk for a safety device company. His wife Myrtle is one year older and they have a son, age 10, perhaps William Derwood, b. Minnesota. That Archie, however, had both of his parents born in Wisconsin.
A Myrtle Dunn, b. 20 Feb 1889, died in Fresno, California, on 21 Apr 1973. She was born in Illinois. Her Social Security number had been issued in Oklahoma.
In the 1940 census, he lives in Minneapolis wife his wife Mabel. Archie, 51, is a house painter seeking work. His wife Mabel, 43, works as a checker at a laundry. He and his wife have 7th grade educations. They own the house they live in, at 1509 East 28th Street, worth $2500, the same house in which they both lived 5 years earlier. They have no one else in their household although they do apparently rent out part of their house to another family.

In the 1920 census, she lived in Minneapolis as a lodger in a large apartment building or dormitory on 10th Street South. She was a dental hygienist.
In the 1930 census, Kate and Erna MacKaben are lodgers living together in a rented apartment on Hauser Boulevard in Los Angeles. Kate is a hygienist for a dentist. Erna is a stenographer for a fruit shipping company.
In the 1940 census, she and her partner Erna MacKaben, 36, born in Illinois, live in Alhambra, California. Kate has a seventh-grade education and has no occupation and does housework. Erna is a secretary for fruit shippers. Erna owns their house at 1104 South Monterey Street, the same house both women lived in five years earlier, and it’s worth $6000. Erna is a high school graduate.
Although the 1930 and 1940 censuses show Erna as born in Illinois, the California Death Index shows her as born in Minnesota on 25 Mar 1904 to a woman whose maiden name was Benicke. Erna’s full name, according to that death index, was Erna Mickeyamiela Mackaben. She died in San Bernardino County on 9 Jul 1997. Actually, Erna was born in Illinois but her family was living in Minnesota by the time of the 1910 census. Erna also had a brother, Ernest, who died in California and was born in Minnesota.
