An article in the La Crosse paper on April 13, 1949, described the return of his body. The article said that the funeral would be at the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church with burial at North Kickapoo. Oscar enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 17, 1941, and went overseas in August of 1941. He was engaged in action in Belgium, Holland, and Germany as a member of the 177th tank battalion, 84th infantry division.
