Her family farm name was called Sönderold in her birth record.

In the 1865 Norwegian census, she is 12 years old and living with her parents and siblings on Søndrohl, mitre, in Vang.

This Randi is the Rangdi Søndvol to whom Ove Ovesen Ellingbø refers in his 1896 letter to his mother. According to Trudy: “She first married Torstein Flaten from Bøaflatadn in Vang. They lived in Minneapolis until Torstein died in 1895. She took the children back to Norway for a few months and then went back to Minnesota, settling in Sunburg where she married Torstein Hollen, born in Hoverstad 63 in Vang. He was a widower with children. They had 2 children. She died in Minneapolis in 1909 and he died in Sunburg in 1930. I don't know if they stayed married or not.”

18080 She is referred to as Mrs. Martha Engel in one of Oscar’s obituaries, Mayta in another. All three of Oscar’s children were still living at home with her and Oscar at the time of Oscar’s death. An article on Oscar’s funeral said that floral offerings had been given by employees of the Wisconsin Match Company in Oshkosh where Mrs. Engel was formerly industrial nurse and welfare worker.

In the 1930 census, she is Mayta L Engel, a 45 year-old widow, living with her daughter Evelyn, 9. Mayta was first married at age 24. Mayta is a housekeeper in a private home. In the 1937 city directory for Madison there is an entry for a Mayta Engel, “widow Oscar L”, who lives at 519 E Johnson. Living with her is Evelyn Engel, student.

In the 1950 census, she was living with Evelyn and family in Madison.
