Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce Doschadis, age 84, of Graceville will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley, MN.
Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, two hours prior to the Mass.
Father David Breu will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her sons: Gary, Steve, Mike, Kevin, and Tim. Honorary bearers will be the Staff of Grace Home.
Joyce Delia Doschadis was born on February 9, 1930, in Foxhome Township, Wilkin County, Minnesota to John and Anna (Ostlund) Toso. She was raised Lutheran and then was baptized into the Catholic Church on June 16, 1947. Joyce graduated from high school in 1947.
On July 10, 1947, Joyce and Raymond Eugene Doschadis were united in marriage in Browns Valley, Minnesota. They lived near Lake Traverse for a while, and then moved to Babbitt, Minnesota. Two years later they settled in Beardsley, Minnesota. Joyce and Ray were blessed with five children. Joyce worked at Phyl's Café in Beardsley, Holy Trinity Hospital as a nurses' assistant and at Beardsley Public Schools as a cook and a janitor. Ray died in June of 1997.
Joyce was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley where she was a member of Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. As a member of the Hee Haw Gang, Joyce played guitar and sang with this group, bringing joy and laughter to many. She enjoyed fishing with Ray. Joyce really liked people and enjoyed a great party. Joyce was a devoted mother and her family meant a lot to her.
Joyce died on October 18, 2014, at Grace Home in Graceville, having reached the age of 84. She will be deeply missed.
Left with her loving memory are her five sons and daughters-in-law: Gary (Carol) Doschadis of Walker, MN; Steve (Nancy) Doschadis of Blaine, MN; Mike (Donna) Doschadis of Watertown, SD; Kevin (Jill) Doschadis of Graceville, MN; Tim (Becky) Doschadis of Beardsley, MN; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Toso of Owatonna, MN; and one sister, Evelyn Hennen of Morris, MN.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers and sisters: Lloyd Toso, Marvin Toso, Jeanette Johnson, Doris Bloch, Clayton Toso, Orin Toso, and Jean Melaas. | TOSO, Joyce Delia (I9406)

Her sister Rodena Lysne, died in La Crosse in 1917. Rodena’s obit said that she had three sisters surviving her: Mrs. August Carlson of Seattle, Mrs. Ole Twedt of La Crosse, and Mrs. Ole Ronice of North Dakota. Rodena had one surviving child, a daughter, Mrs. Nordal Nustad.
Mary’s obituary appeared in the 4 Jan 1920 edition of the La Crosse Tribune:
Mrs. Mary Twedt was born in Ferryville, Wisconsin, on 4 Feb 1860. The years or her childhood and youth were spent in her native home.
Thirty-eight years ago she entered into matrimony at Fargo, North Dakota, with Mr. Ole Twedt of Caledonia, Minnesota. The first three years of their married life they lived on a farm near Fargo. Later they moved to La Crosse which has been their home about 33 years. In her wedlock six children have been born. The following survive: Mrs. C.F. Owen, Chicago; Mrs. J. Midtlien, Minneapolis; George Twedt, Seattle; and Miss Minnie Twedt, Chicago.
Her husband died in this city about 10 years ago. Five brothers and two sisters also survive her: Albert Lee of La Crosse; Thoe Lee of Peterson, Minnesota; Thore Lee of Kindred, North Dakota; Theo Lee and Tobias Lee, both of New Albin, Iowa; Mrs. G. Carlson of Seattle and Mrs. Ole Roneis, Kindred, North Dakota.
About three months ago she went to Chicago to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. C.F. Owen. She died at her home December 30th after suffering for several weeks. The cause of her death was chronic nephritis and heart failure. | LEE, Mary (I31522)

She is listed in “The Valdris Book”, a history of the Valdris Samband published in 1920 (available on Google Books), as Mrs. Berthe Brekken of Dennison. She was a member of the Samband between 1904 and 1910. She had come to the U.S. in 1853.
