In the 1929 Portland, Oregon, city directory, Geo M Bye was a sander for the DmfgCo, the same job and employer as his brother John had. George lived at 935 E 35th N.

George was single and living in an apartment in Los Angeles with his brother John and John’s wife Evelyn at the time of the 1930 census. George was a janitor in an apartment building.

According to the records of the Sawtelle home for disabled veterans in Los Angeles, George enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 31, 1917, in Minneapolis and was discharged as a Private on October 25, 1917, at Fort Snelling. He had been in the 135th U.S. Infantry. He was admitted to the Sawtelle home on July 19, 1932, with a myocardial weakness. He was single, a surveyor by occupation, and was 36 years old, 5 feet six inches in height, with a ruddy complexion, light blue eyes, and brown hair. He gave as his nearest relative his brother, “Jno. G. Bye”, who lived at 74th and San Pedro in Los Angeles. George was discharged on November 8, 1932. He is shown to have had a pension of $12 which was apparently a daily allowance for the home.

In the 1933 Portland city directory, George was a laborer. He lived at 4435 NE 35th Avenue.

In the 1936/37 Portland (Oregon) city directory, he is Geo M Bye, wife Wilma, who lives at 2303 SE 12th Avenue. He is not listed in the 1937/38 Portland (Oregon) city directory.

In the 1940 census, George and Wilma and their 5 children lived at 25 SE 14th Avenue in Portland. George was a recorder for a WPA project.

In the 1941 Portland city directory, George and Wilma lived at 25 SE 14th.

In the 1943/44 Portland (Oregon) city directory, Geo M Bye and wife Wilma M lived at 9201 N Fairhaven Avenue.

In the 1946 Salt Lake City city directory, George and Wilma live in Garfield. George is an unloader for the AS&R Co.

In the 1950 census, he and and Wilma and their children live in Multnomah. George is a laborer doing odd jobs.

His SS# was issued in Oregon before 1951.



His sister Myrtle’s 1967 obituary says that George was living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at that time. That may have been an erroneous reference to Milwaukie, Oregon, a suburb of Portland.
