| 16971 | Roger A. Quamme, age 75 of rural Nerstrand passed away peacefully after a prolonged battle with cancer on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at his home. A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Roger Allen, the son of Henry and Anna (Soine) Quamme, was born June 22, 1934 in Nerstrand. In October of 1979, he married Carol Cramer in Northfield, and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2005. He retired from Hitchcock Industries, Bloomington, in 1999 after working there for 31 years as a smelter. Roger also farmed all of his life raising cattle, chickens and turkeys. He is survived by ten children, Keith (and Christie) Quamme of Nerstrand, Kent Miller, Ames, IA, Kraig (and Teri) Quamme of Dundas, Konan Quamme of Mesa, AZ, Debra Quamme of Mesa, AZ, Kim Quamme of Chandler, AZ, Toni (and Ted) Paro of Northfield, Kenneth (and Carol) Cramer of Northfield, Becki LeMire of Circle Pines, and John (and Lynn) Cramer of Northfield; 18 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and five siblings, Benard (and Jeanne) Quamme of Forest Lake, Hazel Anderson of Cannon Falls, Howard (and Georgia) Quamme of Nerstrand, Theoline (and Mike) Stoffregen of Windom, and Russell Quamme of Kenyon. | 16972 | Roger Gale Sime, born October 19, 1929, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the age of 92. He was born to Herman and Grace (Helgerson) Sime and was the 6th of 10 children. Roger served in the Army, being stationed in Germany and he was extremely proud of his military service. He farmed all his life in Crawford County. On July 2, 1960, Roger married the love of his life, Elaine Anderson, at Utica Lutheran Church and together they had three children: Alan, Barb, and Brian. Roger was a lifelong member of Utica Lutheran Church and was very involved in many church activities. He also served as Chairman of Town of Freeman and was on the Crawford Eastman Insurance Board. Family meant everything to Roger. Roger is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine; children: Alan (Sherrie) Sime, Barb (Gary) Emerson, and Brian (Tricia) Sime; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Geraldine Faerber, Janice Roberts, Mary Burton, John Sime, and Jim (Lila) Sime; and sister-in-law, Sandy Sime. | 16973 | Roger Harry Ophus, 82, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. A memorial service is planned at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Bigwood Event Center in Fergus Falls, with the Rev. David Veum officiating. Burial will be in Rodnes Lutheran Cemetery in Erskine. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bigwood Event Center. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the Humane Society, the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. Condolences may be sent online at www.olsonfuneralhome.com Roger Ophus, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. He was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Crookston, the son of Harry and Anne (Knudson) Ophus. He spent his growing up years on a farm near Erskine, a farm which is still in the family and is now designated as a Century Farm. He attended country school for seven years, and then the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston graduating in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 3, 1951, serving in Korea and Japan. He was discharged on Jan. 22, 1955. Roger then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D., graduating in 1958, with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at UND. On Jan. 30, 1960, he married Mona Lundmark in Rice Lake, Wis. The couple lived in various locations including Rice Lake and LaCrosse, Wis., Minneapolis, Kansas City, Mo., Des Moines and Cresco, Iowa, and Stoughton, Wis. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1974. Over the years Roger was employed with the Pillsbury Company and Butler Manufacturing. He was the owner of the Big Chief Café in Fergus Falls, and most recently served as the executive director of the local American Red Cross chapter until his retirement. Roger was a lifetime member of the YMCA, VFW and American Legion, as well as Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed epic road trips with his wife, Mona (the Navigator), fishing, lake life, saunas and socializing at the Y, and discourse and debate with any and all takers. Later in life he “discovered” this strange new thing called a computer, and so began his exploration of the wonders of the Internet. This allowed him a new way to reach out to old and new friends to continue the debates of life. Roger also loved cooking and he shared this by creating wonderful meals for family and friends at home, at the cabin, and in various hunting and fishing camps across the Northland. Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife, Mona, in 2008. Survivors include his children, Kurt Ophus of Minneapolis, and Tia (Joe) Scarce of Kirkland, Wash.; a granddaughter, Kyrie Scarce; and his siblings, Marjorie (Ira) Mjelde of Erskine, Fred (Donna) Ophus of Granada Hills Calif., and Sandra (John) Delmore of Coon Rapids. | 16974 | ROGER KENT HOLT was born to Orvan and Darlene (Nelson) Holt on February 9, 1943 on the family farm in Alliance Township, Moody County, South Dakota near Jasper, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at the Bethania Lutheran Church in Alliance Township, Moody County. He attended Jasper Elementary School through the eighth grade and then went to Jasper High School for two years, after which he helped his dad on the farm. Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 in Germany during the Cold War Era Time. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he became a journeyman line man and was a member of the Electrical Brotherhood Union. Roger helped build electrical lines all over the United States. On March 5, 2013, he was admitted to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He died there on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the age of 70 years, one month and two days. Roger was an avid Minnesota Vikings football and Minnesota Twins baseball fan. He was a generous man that often helped people he did not know, without any expectation for the favor to be returned. Roger is remembered by his two sons, Troy Schlag and wife Romiah of Richmond, Texas and Todd Schlag of Little Falls, Minnesota; three brothers, Larry Holt of Jasper, Minnesota, Richard Holt of Trent, South Dakota and Dennis Holt of Carson City, Nevada; one sister, Linda Brochu of Forest Lake, Minnesota; and his ex-wife, Mary Dieckman. | 16976 | ROGER THOMAS DAHL Roger Thomas Dahl, 85, Hannaford, ND went home December 12, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Fargo, ND after a valiant fight with cancer. Roger was born December 9, 1927 in Cooperstown, ND, the son of Thomas and Sophia (Trost) Dahl. He grew up and attended rural school in the Hannaford, ND area. At the age of 8, he worked for a turkey/chicken farmer and at age 15 he took the train to Oregon where he worked in the ship yards. He served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1948 and was stationed in the Philippines. After being honorably discharged, he returned to North Dakota where he met the love of his life, Darlene Rahlf. They were married August 29, 1951 in Zion Lutheran Church, rural Binford, ND. The couple lived in Oregon and Washington where Roger worked various construction jobs including the Dalles Dam. Their four eldest children were born there before returning to ND in 1959 where they lived on the family dairy farm and raised their seven children. Roger was an eternal optimist which reflected through him in everything he did in life. Roger was a family man who took great joy in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed his horses, farming and dancing. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Kathryn Dahl, Portland, OR; Judith Rolle and Thomas (Karla) Dahl, Fargo, ND; Deanna (Eddie Glur) Dahl, Minnetonka, MN; Susan (Frank) Martinez, Glendale, AZ; Mary (Martin) Briss, Enderlin, ND and Beth (Maverick) Hampton, Ocala, FL; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Dahl, Fargo, ND; Lyle (Linda) Dahl, Moorhead, MN; three sisters, Betty Erickson and Evelyn Braaten, CA and Arlene (Verel) Moore, Merrilville, MN and sister-in-law, Connie Dahl, Valley City, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Sophia; one brother, David Dahl and granddaughter, Chyavana Hampton. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM with visitation prior at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, rural Binford, ND.
