16682 Ray says, [Carl] “and his mother Anna also came to Ellis Island from Oslo (Kristiania at the time) on the Bergensfjord, some 3 years earlier. They also spent time in Stockholm with relatives before taking the train (assumed) to Oslo. They left Oslo on July 22,1914 and arrived at Ellis Island on Aug. 3, 1914. There is no record of them stopping in Halifax on the way. My father remembered taking a train to Seattle via Chicago.” NYGREN, Carl P (I28540)
 
16683 Ray says, “Olof emigrated from Liverpool on May 7, 1903 to Boston on the steamship "Mayflower". arriving on May 16, 1903. He left his wife Ida and two sons in Sweden until he could get established.”

In the 1906 Canadian census, he and his family lived in Subdistrict 37 of Assininoia East District, Saskatchewan. Their postal address was Dubuc. Olaf had first come to Canada in 1903, his wife and two oldest sons had apparently followed the next year, 1904. Olaf’s older brother Johan lives with them.

In the 1916 Canadian census, indexed as Rosene, Olaf and Ida and family live in the Saltcoats 04 District of Saskatchewan.

There was a different Olaf Rosen, born in Sweden at about the same time, who died in Stevens County, Washington, in 1955.

Janet calls him Olaf Johansson Rosen.

16684 Raymond M. Giere, 87, of Wheeler passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at The Neighbors of Dunn County, Menomonie.

Raymond was born April 19, 1929, in Wheeler, to Martin and Mabel (Holtan) Giere. He attended North Elementary School and graduated from Menomonie High School.

After high school, he worked on the family farm. In Aug. 1954, Raymond married Catherine Schoenoff. They were blessed with four children.

Ray delivered bottled milk for Maple Hill Dairy, worked at Berg’s Automotive and retired from U.W. Stout where he worked as custodian, but he was always a farmer at heart.

Ray loved his garden, especially his strawberries, raspberries and tomatoes. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing and was a good neighbor, always willing to help however he could. He was also a member of Forest Center Church of the Nazarene.

Raymond is survived by one son, Larry (Jayette) Giere of Menomonie; two daughters, Laura Ellingboe of Eau Claire and Becky (David) Clark of Boyceville; eleven grandchildren, Justin Scherer, Michelle (Jeremy) Lee, Travis Giere, Jesse (Teresa) Giere, Russell Giere, Elizabeth Ellingboe, Elanna Ellingboe, Catelynn Clark, Kevin Clark, Kenny Clark and Christa Clark; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene Jenson of Mountain Home, Ark., Geraldine Mense of Rice Lake, and Marilynne Johnson of Eagle Grove, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Russell Peterson of Fond du Lac, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Leslie; a grandson, Jay Scherer; five sisters, Margaret Riedel, Ida Lausted, Stella Hanse, Jeanette Johnson and Audrey Peterson; two brothers, Vernon Giere and Roger Giere; four brothers-in-law, William Riedel, Walter Lausted, Lennart Johnson and Richard Hansen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2017, at Forest Center Church of the Nazarene in the Town of Spring Brook, Dunn Co., with Pastor Clifford Larrabee officiating. There will be visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Olson Funeral Home, Menomonie, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Burial will be in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Hay River, Dunn Co.

16686 Raymond “LuVerne” Sondrol, 95, of Sunburg, Minnesota passed away Thursday morning, July 22, 2021 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg.  Interment will be at West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Hope Lutheran Church and continued for one hour prior to the service.  

LuVerne was born May 25, 1926, on the family farm near Sunburg, the son of Ole and Alma (Lansverk) Sondrol.  He grew up and received his education in the Sunburg community and continued to work on the family farm.  
May 10, 1952, LuVerne was married to Vivian Lucille Adolphsen and they made their home on the family farm.
 
LuVerne worked hard as a farmer and as a salesman for Security Seed Corn, Archer Oil and President Homes.  He co-owned and operated the Glacial Trail Supper Club and later the Lake Reno Inn.  LuVerne also owned and operated Sondrol Excavating.  He was a active member of Hope Lutheran Church and the National Farmers Organization (NFO).  LuVerne was a volunteer for the Civil Air Patrol and a member of the Elk’s Lodge, Eagle’s Club and the American Legion Post.  He was a proud supporter of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, aviation and traveling, especially throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe.

He is survived by his four children: Janice (and Charles) Nichols of Grove City, Karen (and Charles) Huseby of Kerkhoven, Steven (and Jeanne) Sondrol of Murdock and Kathy (and Tim) Hanson of Sunburg; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister-in-law, Audrey Sondrol of Sunburg and his special friend, Carolyn Harris of Cottage Grove, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian in 2012; one granddaughter, Andrea Hanson; two sisters, Doris Sventek and Eleanor Halgrimson and two brothers, Clifford Sondrol and Russell Sondrol.

Duane Joseph Kilde, 78, of Bemidji, died April 3, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2012 at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji. Military honors will be provided by the VFW #1260 of Bemidji. A luncheon will be served at the Bemidji Eagles Club following the service.

Duane was born April 18, 1933, in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Effie (Hultman) Kilde. He was raised and educated in the Fergus Falls area and moved to International Falls where he completed his education. He worked as a psychiatric aide at Fergus Falls State Hospital for several years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955 and was stationed in Korea. He married Dee Maurine Darst on May 15, 1954, in Beatrice, Nebraska. They moved to Bemidji. His father-in-law founded the Bemidji Fleet Distributors where Duane managed the store for many years until 1989. He then managed the Bemidji Eagles Club for a number of years. He was a fireman for the Bemidji Fire Department from 1967 - 1988. He was a member of the VFW Post #1260, the American Legion Post #14 of Bemidji, Bemidji Aerie #351, and the Moose and Elk Lodges. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and family, hunting, camping, and lately just having coffee and reminiscing about the past. His stories were always told with an entertaining blend of fiction and fact.

16688 Rebecca Alma Bratrude, 58, of Omak, WA, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, January 4, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital. She was born April 21, 1949, in Omak to Roy and Barbara Wood.

She graduated from Okanogan High School in 1967, and attended Eastern Washington University. She married Douglas Haeberle on August 29, 1969. To this union were born Scott, Kevin and Jennifer. Doug preceded Rebecca in death in 1987. She married Dr. Amos P. Bratrude on October 15, 1990.

Rebecca was instrumental in creating and leading a women’s support group known as the PIG Ladies (Positive Image Group), that focused on balancing the physical, intellectual and spiritual aspects of life — she was a mentor to many and happiest when surrounded by family. Rebecca was a member of the Conconully United Methodist Church and the Okanogan County Historical Society. Rebecca’s passing has left a huge void, not only in the family circle, but also in the community. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Pres of Omak; two sons, Scott (Quinta) Haeberle of Omak and Kevin (Jessie) Haeberle of Spokane; daughter, Jennifer Haeberle of Omak; sister, Sharon (Jack) Dunlevy of Bend, OR; three brothers, Jim (Maxine) Wood, David (Sonya) Wood and Mark (Dee) Wood, all of Okanogan. She is also survived by her husband’s children, Kristie (Mike) Neff of Wenatchee, Ted (Johnnie) Bratrude of Seattle, Bruce (Kate) Bratrude of Wenatchee and Paul (Katherine) Bratrude of Dublin, CA; and twelve grandchildren, Brandi Bratrude, Jessie Bratrude, Jenna Neff, Melanie Neff, Ashley Bratrude, Courtney Bratrude, Jake Bratrude, Karlie Neff, Paiton Haeberle, Emma Haeberle, Jax Haeberle, Bella Haeberle; and countless friends.

Husband, Doug; mother, Barbara; father, Roy; and sister, Beverley preceded her in death.

16689 Rebecca Jean Beck passed away on May 19, 2021 with family members by her side.

“Becky” was born on March 19, 1942 in a small farmhouse on Town Line Road, near Eveleth, Minnesota. She was born the third of five girls to Martin Joseph and Marie Elizabeth Peterka. The family moved to California in 1943, and in 1946 relocated to Orofino, Idaho.

As a girl of 14 she started working in her parents’ business, The Orofino Cafe. Becky attended Orofino Elementary, Junior High, played the flute in the school band and graduated from Orofino High School in May of 1959. She married Larry Beck a month later, in June of the same year. They built a home on Riverside that they have lived in for over 50 years.

During this time, she and Larry were foster parents to local children, who continue to contact the family often.

She worked at Hayes Grocery Store as a grocery checker on Riverside in Orofino then went on to work at Idaho 1st National / West One Bank and retired from West One / US Bank. She later owned “Becky’s Tax Service’’, for over 20 years, with her friend Nancy Montambo.

In most any situation, Becky was an “in charge” person, and had a ready solution for anything. Becky was supportive of most of her boys’ activities, such as track, football, swimming, dirt bikes, but not so much with snowmobiles and bull riding!

Becky endured many health problems, including three bouts of cancer, and other major surgeries throughout her life.

Her dogs, Libby and Buffy were very important to her. When eating out, she always remembered to bring plenty home for them.

Becky was very generous and thoughtful with gift-giving, to her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Marjorie Gibson, mother and father in-law, Berniece and Bill Beck, sisters-in-law, Nancy Rainville, and Bev Beck, brother-in-law, Ron Beck and nephew, Teddy Rainville.

She is survived by her husband Larry of 61 years, sons, Billy, (Cindy) of Lenore, John, (Sue), of Orofino, and Tim of Wenatchee, Washington.

Grandchildren are Cody Beck, (Sammi), of Lenore, Travis Beck, (Hannah) of Lewiston, Shani Cobbs (Zach) of Lenore, Michael Gray, (Josey) of Lewiston, Zach Beck, of Juneau, Alaska, who spent a lot of time with Grandma and Grandpa Beck throughout the years, and Cole and Connor Beck, of Wenatchee Washington.

Great-Grandchildren include Ally Wages, Mick Zenner, Mylie Zenner, Sofie Beck, Benton Beck, baby boy Beck expected in September, Landen Cobbs, Tripp Cobbs, Kinzlee Cobbs, Jace Gray and Tyler Gray.

Three sisters also survive, Judy Daniels (Dale), in Kennewick, WA. Barbara Newbry,(Garry) in Cheney, WA. who named their oldest daughter, Becky Jo after her sister Becky, and Marie Highfield (David) in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Nieces and nephews are, Jeff Daniels, Danny Daniels, Joni Tiffany, Joe Daniels, and Brett Gibson, Greg Gibson, Cameron Gibson, Becky Jo Heath, Brent Newbry, Brady Newbry, Sandon Ross, Sarah MacInnes, Bob Whitney, Renae Keeler, Jaime Corneal and Kim Engle.
