Neither of her parents seems to be listed in the 1865 Norwegian census. She is probably the 16 year-old Marthe Olsdatter who is a servant on the Haldor Bredesen farm, “Gjefsen nedre og nord”, in Næs in Gran. There is an Anne Olsdatter, b. 1854, also working there as “Lægdslem paa Gaarden.”

(That Anne is probably not Marte’s sister. That Anne seems to be the one born on June 17, 1854, to Ole Andersen Østiens or Øskiens and Birthe Olsdatter.)

Also referred to as Christopher Martin as he did, for example, on his draft registration. In that registration he was described as tall and of medium build with dark brown eyes and dark hair. He was a self-employed farmer and gave his nearest relative as Knute Nelson of Boyd.

As Christopher M Ekum, he was a farmer in Colburn Twp, Chippewa County, in the 1920 census. He was a widower in the 1930 census (indexed as Ekrem).

Living at home with his parents in the 1930 census. He was a laborer for a contractor.

He was still living with his parents in the 1935/36 Fergus Falls city directory but he was then a laborer for Otter Tail Power Co. Same in the 1937/38 Fergus Falls city directory.

In the 1941/42 Fergus Falls city directory, he and Mabel lived at 407 Bancroft Avenue West. He was a fireman for Otter Tail Power Co.

Marvil C. Stangvik, 95, Fergus Falls, died Friday, April 9, 2004, in Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls.

Mr. Stangvik was born June 9, 1908, in Dalton, Minn., where he grew up. On April 10, 1937, he married Mabel Amanda Olson in South Dakota. They lived in Fergus Falls, where he worked for Otter Tail Power Co. and became superintendent of the Hoot Lake plant, retiring in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by two sons, Steven (Clydene), Fergus Falls, Philip, Faribault, Minn.; a daughter, Karen Peterson, Battle Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

No one seems to know what happened to him. He is not listed in the birth index. He may not be an actual biological son of Knut and Berit. He is the only one of the siblings not to be buried at Vang.

Several trees on Ancestry erroneously show him as the son of his brother Leonard.

He is living at home in Holden Twp with his mother and siblings in the 1930 census. He is no longer living with his mother in the 1940 census.
