Palma V. Sondrol, age 93, of Sunburg, MN, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 1st at Sunburg Free Lutheran Church in Sunburg with Rev. Ronald Knutson officiating.
Palma Viola (Jacobson) Sondrol was born on October 26, 1917, to Paul and Martha (Sorenson) Jacobson at their farm home in Pope County, Minnesota. She was baptized in the Sunburg Free Lutheran Church, and confirmed there in 1913. Palma was married to Julius Tilman Sondrol at the Brooten Parsonage, Stearns County, Minnesota, on September 26, 1940, by Pastor K.A. Bodin.
Palma enjoyed cooking, baking, farm chores, and spent six winters making lefse for the public. She has been active in birthday parties and church activities, was president of the ladies aid for 13 years, Sunday School superintendent for 13 years, for several years she made the "rommegrot" for the church bazaar, and she was chief coffee cook at many church gatherings. Palma enjoyed her flowers, animals and loved all birds. She loved her family most of all, and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be remembered for many things, especially her loving and giving nature. Always giving of her time, her love, and if you happened to visit on a day she was baking, you would most likely go home with a plate of fresh cookies, a dozen buns, or a loaf of bread from the oven.
Julius passed way on Father's Day, June 18, 1989. Palma continued to live on the farm for several years until her health failed. The last few years she spent at the Miriam Manor, in Sunburg, where she embroidered many pillowcases, etc. for her family. It seemed like no matter who was taking care of her the day you went to visit, she always said they were SO NICE and she JUST LOVED THEM. Palma will be greatly missed, but lovingly remembered.
Palma is survived by three children: Priscilla (Eldon) Hanson of Hawick, MN; Marlys (Douglas) Grindall of International Falls, MN; and Sheldon (special friend Karlee Persing) Sondrol of Sunburg, MN. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Sondrol in 1989; 3 brothers, Palmer, Clifford, and Walter Jacobson; and 2 sisters, Alida Peterson and Amy Sondrol. | JACOBSON, Palma Viola (I13946)
