1596 Ann Gunborg Lockrem, age 97, of Kenyon, Minn., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at the Kenyon Sunset Home. Ann, the daughter of Karl and Anna (Anderson) Johnson, was born on Dec. 20, 1909, in Hallock, Minn. Her schooling began in a one-room country school in the Red River area near Hallock. She graduated from Hallock High School in 1928, after which she was employed at Carleton College for two years. Ann married Christopher (Christ) Lockrem on June 11, 1930, in Nerstrand, and the couple farmed in the Valley Grove area. Christ and Ann, as they were known, were members of the nearby Valley Grove Church, where Ann was active in the Ladies Aid. She was fond of gardening, interested in genealogy and loved writing stores of her life experiences, several of which were published. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. The couple retired from farming in 1975 and moved to Kenyon. Christ died on Sept. 25, 1992. Ann is survived by her daughter, Arlene of Colorado Springs, Colo., two sons, Kenneth (Lynda) of Cheyenne, Wyo., and David (Linda) of Blaine, Minn.; grandchildren, Christopher Lockrem of Oakland, Calif, Michael (Lisa) Lockrem of Reno, Nev., Shauneen (Lance) Shalz of Sand Couley, Mont., Colleen (Keith) Midcap of Woodland Park, Colo., and Michelle (Warren) Magnuson of Forest Lake, Minn.; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Doris (Gerald) Wickett of Denver, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Johnson of Hallock, Minn. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Christ; sisters, Vera Jensen, Alva Gunhus, Vanja Knoblauch and Iris in infancy; and brothers, Helge Johnson, Arthur Johnson, Herbert Johnson and Bennet in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at the Gol Lutheran Church in Kenyon, with the Rev. Pastor Daniel J. Dimick, officiating. Interment will be in the Valley Grove Cemetery near Nerstrand, Minn. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Hanson Funeral Home in Kenyon, and for one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. 1598 Ann Marie Halverson, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on February 11, 2005, in Tacoma. Ann was born in Charleson, North Dakota on October 25, 1914. On October 18, 1941, Ann married Jack Halverson. They were married until he passed away in 1982.

Ann’s greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed working in her garden, baking, camping, and reading. Ann was a wonderful friend, too. She was always willing to help others, and never put herself first. She will always be remembered for her cookies, her wet kisses, her endless cans of fruits and vegetables, her love of pinochle and Skip-Bo, and her kind spirit.

Ann is survived by her sister Gudrun in North Dakota, her son Jerry Halverson (Jan), son John Halverson (Gail), and daughter Sandy Johnson (Marvin). She also has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.The Halversons were long-standing members of Hope Lutheran Church in Tacoma. They enjoyed fellowship and friendship with many church members.Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 17 at Mountain View Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18 at Hope Lutheran. Flowers may be sent to Hope Lutheran Church. Donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
