No one seems to know what happened to him. He is not listed in the birth index. He may not be an actual biological son of Knut and Berit. He is the only one of the siblings not to be buried at Vang.

Several trees on Ancestry erroneously show him as the son of his brother Leonard.

He is living at home in Holden Twp with his mother and siblings in the 1930 census. He is no longer living with his mother in the 1940 census.

Marlys Mae Saxhaug, 88, of Virginia died Monday, March 12, 2018, peacefully, in Diamond Willow Assisted Living Residence in Mountain Iron.

She was born September 24, 1929, in Menominee, WI, the daughter of Frederick and Hazel (Pechmiller) Eckert. Marlys married Vernon Delford Saxhaug on March 22, 1952, in Amery, WI, and was a longtime resident of Virginia. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and Wednesday Release Time. She participated in Golf Leagues, a walking group, a painting group, a ceramic club, the Apache Wells Cribbage Club, and was a member of the Virginia Study Club. She enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing, and gardening and cooking; you never left her home hungry. Marlys enjoyed Christmas time, the Fourth of July celebrations, and her lake homes. Marlys’ greatest joy came from time spent with her family, whom she cherished dearly; her life was all about family.

Marlys is survived by children: Sherry (Jeff) Coughlin, Aurora, MN, Deborah Saxhaug, Inver Grove Heights, MN, Mark Saxhaug, Britt, MN, Karen Saxhaug Walden (Jim Walden), Maple Grove, MN, Bradford Saxhaug (Christine Jones), Virginia, MN, and Eric Saxhaug (Jennifer Rebholz) of Ely Lake; grandchildren: Briana Coughlin, Ashley (Joe) Walli, Kacie Coughlin, Dillon Saxhaug, Lauren Saxhaug Carlson, Adam Saxhaug (Tiffany Austad), Kiersten Saxhaug, Derek (Michaela Jansen) Walden, Jacob Walden, Samuel Walden, Samantha (Mike) Irish, Jessica (Pat) Mitsch, William (Lindsey) Jones, Alexandra Saxhaug, Alex Rebholz, and Connor Saxhaug; great-grandchildren: Jamison Saxhaug Anderson, Logan Irish, Odin Taylor, Karson Saxhaug Lentsch, River Coughlin, Brady Mitsch, Jace Walli, Eliza Irish, and Camden Mitsch; Special family members: Joyce Garcia and Michael Skinner; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Vernon; daughter: Karen Marie Walden; and siblings: Laverne Eckert, Betty Peterson, Gordon Eckert, and Phyllis Burke.

In the 1905 Minnesota state census, she was already working as a domestic with the Albert Booth family, 1708 Como Avenue in southeast Minneapolis.

In the 1909 Minneapolis city directory, she is May M Carr, stenographer for Robitshek, Frank & Heller, boarding at her mother’s home, 904 East 18th Street.

Shown in the 1910 census as living at home with her mother and siblings. She is shown as 19, single, and employed as a bookkeeper in the typewriter business.

A newspaper article in the Huron newspaper in January of 1938 mentions the Witzkers visiting the Mannings in Huron.

The PACF Family Tree calls her Maysie Marie Carr and has her dying in Maryland in March of 1979. The person cited in the SSDI is Marie Carr, b. 29 Jun 1890, d. Mar 1979, last benefit paid at 21921 Elkton in Cecil, Maryland. That Marie’s SSN, 261-26-4224, was issued in Florida.

From the Massachusetts birth records, Leonard is the Leonard Montgomery McPherson born 9 Mar 1892 in Boston to Daniel L and Christie E McPherson.

Leonard Montgomery MacPherson, age 50, registered for the draft in 1942. He had been born in Boston on 9 Mar 1892 and resided at 630 North Heath Street in “Coos, Coquille, Oregon.” His mailing address was Sunrise Auto Court, So. Riverside St, Medford, Oregon. His employer was C. M. C. No. 18131, Camp White, of Medford, Jackson County, Oregon. The name of the person who would always know his address was Mrs. W. E. Bush of Marshfield, Oregon (his daughter).

It’s possible that Leonard had a son from his first marriage: Leonard M MacPherson Jr., of Oregon but b. 1914 in Massachusetts, enlisted in the U.S. Army on 15 Jan 1946 in Texas.

In the 1929 Portland, Oregon, city directory, a Leonard M Macpherson, wife Marguerite, salesman, lived at 1655 Prescott.

Marguerite M Macpherson died in Portland on 25 Sep 1929.

In the 1930 census, Leonard M MacPherson, a 38 year-old widower, lived with his children Leonard, 16, Margerite, 13, Mae, 9, and Christina, 2, in Portland, Oregon. He was a salesman of stocks and bonds. Leonard Jr. and Margerite were born in Massachusetts. Mae was born in Montana. Christina was born in Oregon. The mother of all four children was born in Massachusetts.

In the 1940 census, Christine Macpherson, age 12, was a pupil at the Christie Home, Holy Name Convent, Marylhurst, in Hazelia in Clackamas County. Five years earlier she had lived in Coos Bay.

In the 1940 census, Leonard M McPherson, age 26, lived in Duval County, Florida. He was a salesman of retail men’s clothing.

In the 1940 census, Leonard Sr.’s daughter Margarite, 24, was the wife of Wilbert E Bush, 26, of Seattle. Five years earlier, both had lived in Marshfield, Coos County, Oregon.

Her obituary says that Mearl and Carl resided on a farm near Viroqua until 1955 when they moved into Viroqua.

Mearl died at Wisconsin General Hospital in Madison after a brief illness and surgery. The pallbearers at Mearl’s funeral were all Crooks: Otto, Clair, Floyd, Faye, Harold, and Gale.
