15781 Or Justine STRAND, Gertina (I26067)

15782 Or Karen Sofia. FamilySearch Family Tree calls her Carin Sofie Ellefsen.

In the 1900 census (June 19th), Carin Wold was already a widow but had not yet married Martin Bye. She is shown as 44 (born Jan 1856) and is living with her 12 year old son Harold S. (born Mar 1888) and her 7 year old daughter Alma (born June 1892). Also living with them is 3 year-old Hilda Morstad (born May 1897) who is shown as an adopted daughter. Carin is shown as having had 5 children, two still living. The family was living at 120 or 123 Bancroft Avenue (near Channing Avenue on which some of the Byes lived) in a home that Carin owned without mortgage. No occupation is shown for Carin. She is shown has having immigrated in 1885.

Called Sophie in the city directories.

The 1910 census form says they had been married for 8 years which would put their year of marriage at 1902 or 1903. The form also says that Carin had given birth to 5 children, only two still living. (Hilda Morstad was now living with Bernard and Jennie Morstad in Minot, North Dakota. Hilda Rebekka Morstad, b. 5 May 1897, bapt. 6 Jun in Fergus Falls, was confirmed at First Lutheran in Minot on 28 May 1911. In her confirmation record, her parents are shown as Bernhard E. and Rina Morstad.)

Immigrated to the U.S. in 1884.

The 1910 census suggests that Carin, not Martin, owned the home that they lived in on Remington in the city of Fergus Falls (Ward 4) and that the home was free of mortgage in 1910.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ole Grove, a life long resident of Dundas and Northfield, who passed away at the Northfield hospital on Friday, December 10, following an illness of one week of asthma and complications, were held on Monday, Dec. 13. The services were held at the Odd Fellows Home at 2 o'clock and at the Congregational church at 2:30 p. m. with the pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Martin, officiating. The pallbearers were Fred Bates, Calvin Grimes, Kenneth Hamann, Kenneth Johnson, Harold Ramsay and L. R. Williamson. Mae Catherine Partlow was born on May 1, 1876, at Dundas, the daughter of William and Mary Partlow. She made her home at Dundas and attended the schools at Dundas and Northfield. On October 12, 1896, she was united in marriage to Ole A. Grove and they made their home in Northfield. Several months ago both Mr. and Mrs. Grove went to make their home at the Odd Fellows Home where they were residing at the time she was taken ill. In the 1900 census, she was a widow living in the M precinct of Seward County, Nebraska. Living with her were five of her children. She is shown as having had 9 children, 6 still living. She had no occupation but is shown as owning her farm, albeit with a mortgage.

In the 1907 city directory of Lincoln, Nebraska, she was Sarah J Dyer, widow of Barton N, residing at 436 S 10th.

She is not listed in the 1908 Lincoln city directory.

In the 1909 Lincoln directory, she is Sarah Dyer, widow of Barton, residing at 1502 N 27th with her daughter Carrie Dyer, mangle girl.

In the 1910 Lincoln directory, she is Sarah J Dyer, widow of Barton N, residing at 2009 R with her daughter Carrie.

In the 1920 census, she seems to be Sarah Galbraith, age 62, wife of Charley, living in Gosper County next to William Dyer, 61, his wife Carrie, and their children. (Presumably, William is a brother of Sarah’s first husband.) Living with Sarah and Charley is Mamie W Duffy, age 12, grand-daughter. Mamie was born in Nebraska.
