Never married. Died as Mary H. Ellingboe at Luther Hall, 2636 Park Avenue, Minneapolis. The informant for her death certificate was Mrs. Helen Hanson, 255 11th Avenue, Granite Falls (perhaps #17378).

Mary had been a school teacher.

Mary died of heart failure brought about by pneumonia.

Living at home with her mother and siblings in the 1910 census and the 1920 census. She is a school teacher.

In the 1940 census, she was the head-of-household and living in Maynard in the same house that she had lived in in 1935. Also in the household were her brother Thomas and his wife and daughter. Mary had had one year of high school.

In the 1950 census, she may be the 66 year-old Mary Ellingboe, an unmarried woman living at 1400 5th Avenue S. in Minneapolis. The census taker notes that she was unable to contact Mary Ellingboe directly (a common problem in the 1950 census) and that the information shown for Mary was obtained from Mary’s landlord or the landlord’s agent.

Registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Spokane, Washington, as Carl Gilbertson. There was a note on the card that said that his local board was “Wallace” in some illegible county in Idaho. At that time, he was still a “declared alien” and not a citizen of the U. S. He gave his permanent address as the Como Hotel in Spokane but there was a note on the card that said “Mail at Wallace, Idaho” and he gave his occupation as woodsman for the Turner Lumber Company at Tammany Mine, Montana. He listed his nearest relative as George Karlsrud of Neves, Minnesota. He was described as tall and of medium build with blue eyes and light hair.

In the 1920 census, Carl Gilbertson, age 35, is a headman at the Saddler Canyon Lumber Camp in the Priest River Precinct of Bonner County, Idaho. He had come to the U.S. in 1902.

In the 1930 census, Carl Gilbertson, age 45, is a laborer in woods work at the Ohio Match Company’s boarding houses in the Metaline precinct of Pend Oreille County, Washington. He had come to the U.S. in 1902.

He registered for the World War II draft in 1942. At that time, he lived at 1424 W Wilson Avenue in Spokane. He worked for an employer in Orofino, Idaho. He gave, as the “person who will always know your address,” W. J. Johnson of Orofino, Idaho.

He may be the Carl Gilbertson, age 64, who died in Spokane, Washington, on 10 Jan 1949.

Never married. Lived with her aunt Louise. Is shown in the 1920 census and the 1930 census and 1940 census as living with Louise and Martin in Viroqua.

In the 1950 census, she is living in Viroqua with her aunt Louise. Also in the household is the Halvor Allness family.

Her obit says that Clara died suddenly on “Tuesday morning” at a Madison hospital after a lingering illness. That would mean that Clara died on July 1st, the date on her Vernon County death record. The obit said that she had been in failing health for about a year.

May have been the only one of her family to _not_ change her name to Ekum.

Clara, Caroline, and Dorothy visited Cora at her Minnehaha Ave. home on July 17, 1944.

Clara “and Mildred and kids” visited Cora on Minnehaha on July 18, 1947.

According to the obit in the La Crosse newspaper, which had her age as 58, Clara Munson died at a Madison hospital after a lingering illness. “Since childhood she had made her home with an aunt, Mrs. Martin Larson. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Allness. The Rev. Alf Romstad officiates. Survivors include one brother, Martin Ekum, Viroqua, her aunt, and several cousins.”
