15396 Olaf’s wife Betsy wrote this entry for Olaf’s and her family for “Lines of the Past”, the local history book put out by the Preeceville Historical Society in 1982.

Olaf was born in Summit, South Dakota. He was about twelve years old when he came to Canada with his parents and settled on a farm in the Hassan area. Hi filed on a homestead in the Robinson Creek district in 1915.

In 1918 he married Betsy, daughter of Charlie and Ida Johnson. Olaf sold his homestead in 1918 and bought land at Hassan, Sask. The family lived on the Hassan farm until about 1962. Olaf died from a heart attack in 1960. Betsy retired to Sturgis, Sask.

Olaf and Betsy had seven boys and one girl.

Chester, the oldest, served overseas in WW II. He married Irene Oftebro. They lived in Sturgis. Chester died in 1966.

Stanley, the youngest of the boys, was killed in a car accident that same year, 1966.

The only daughter of Olaf and Betsy, Ida (Mrs. Ralph Lee) died in 1980 from a long illness of cancer.

Roy, a university graduate, works in Alberta.

Virgil, Walter, Elmer, and Archie are farmers, truck drivers, and mechanics. Elmer married a Robinson Creek district girl, Loretta Rosenkerr. They reside in Sturgis.

15398 Olav Vetrhus, 82, formerly from Ottawa, went to Heaven with his children by his side on Aug. 28 in Duarte, Calif.

He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Fogn, Norway, to Rasmus and Sanna (Varland) Vetrhus. He came to Ottawa in 1949. He married Evelyn Anderson Boe Vetrhus on Dec. 28, 1950.

Upon retirement from Libby- Owens-Ford, they moved to Canyon Lake, Calif.

Olav was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (2006); his son, Steven (2012); six brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by three children, Arne (Patty) Vetrhus, of Salmon, Idaho, Mariann Vetrhus, Eastvale, Calif., and Karen Gillissie, Bradbury, Calif.; as well as nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Olav enjoyed fishing, taking long walks, gardening, participating in church activities and visiting with family and friends. He loved and appreciated the many phone calls, emails, visits and Facebook posts.

Olav's memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Brethren Church in Pasadena, Calif. The date is pending for the memorial service to be in Ottawa.

15399 Olavus and Josie O. Anfinson biography:

Olavus Anfinson of Northfield was born at Kenyon, MN, on August 1, 1869, the 6th son of Anfin Thue and Anne Fleshe.  Anfin Thue immigrated from Balderstrand, Norway, in 1860.  Mr. and Mrs. Ole Fleshe, Anne’s parents, immigrated from Sogn, Norway, in 1839.  Both families settled in Dane County, WI.  Anfin and Anne were married in 1857 and engaged in farming in Wisconsin until 1860.  During his early years in America, Anfin took his father’s name.  He dropped the name Thue and took the name of Anfinson: son of Anfin.  In 1860 Anfin and Anne purchased land in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County, MN.  Later they purchased land in Greenvale Township, Dakota County, and in 1886 purchased land in New Market Township, Scott County.  Anfin and Anne Anfinson had 7 children:  Louie, Ole, Hans, Andrew, Jacob, Olavus and Andreas.  Three children died young.  Louie Anfinson married Marne Erickson and farmed the farm purchased by his father in Scott County.  Louie and Marne had 2 children, Ellen and Joseph.  Ellen now owns the Scott County farm.  Joseph owns the Dakota County farm which is operated by his son, George.  Ole Anfinson married first Gurend Amundson and 2nd wife, Sigrid “Sarah” Jordahl.  He owned and operated the farm purchased by his father in Goodhue County until he passed away.  The farm is still in the family.  Jacob Anfinson married Sophie Roland.  He farmed with his father and brothers in Dakota County until he purchased a farm in Milaca, MN, in 1910.  Jacob passed away in 1944 but the farm is still in the family.  Olavus Anfinson married Josie O. Ellinboe on November 16, 1908.  Josie was the daughter of John J. Ellingboe, III, and Ambjor “Emma” Strand of Northfield.  Olavus was a barber in Northfield for over 50 years, until poor health forced him to retire.  Olavus and Josie had a family of 5 living children:  Eleanor married James Page of Elko, MN; Esther married Norman Eide; Bertha married Edwin Kermit Hed; Orville married Collene McKusker; and Maurice married Delores Linde.  Olavus passed away January 17, 1946.  Josie passed away October 9, 1972, at Northfield.  Eleanor Anfinson married James Page on December 24, 1925.  They made their home at Lakeville a short time before moving to Northfield.  Elean or and James have 7 children:  Lois (Mrs. George Haworth), Rodger, LeRoy, Donald, Percy “Skip,” Betty (Mrs. Roland Krenke) and John.  James worked for the Northfield Iron Company until poor health forced him to retire.  He was member of the Eagles and enjoyed fishing.  He passed away in 1964.  Eleanor is a resident of Northfield and is a member of the St. John’s Church.

15400 Oldenburg, Marvin H. age 92 of Prior Lake, passed away Friday. Survived by wife, Myrtle (Pool) Oldenburg; children, Marilyn (Ken) Scheffler, Jeannette (Julian) Miller, Jim Friedges, Dale (Mary) Oldenburg, Bonnie (Roger) Grapper; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter, Jeanne Friedges, and parents. He was born August 14, 1919 in Lydia, MN. Marvin was married to Myrtle Pool on August 28, 1942. They farmed for 52 years, then selling their farm they built their new house on 10 acres overlooking Fish Lake. Marvin was very active in clubs and organizations, Scott County Commissioner 12 years, Spring Lake Township Board, Jordan Creamery Board, Prior Lake Watershed Board, Fish Lake Sportsman Club, Soil and Water Conservation Board, Prior Lake Lions Club, St. Paul's Lutheran Church Council, Metro Council, Farm Bureau Board. Marvin & Myrtle loved to travel and spent 16 years of their life wintering in Texas. He was a devoted fisherman and loved to spend time on the lake. In later years he enjoyed reading, taking care of his birds, gardening and taking care of their flowers. Visitation Monday 4-8 PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Jordan & 1 hour prior to service. Funeral service Tues. 11 AM, St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment Spirit Hill Cemetery. OLDENBURG, Marvin H (I16925)
