14171 Living with his parents and siblings on a farm in Rose Hill Twp, Cottonwood County, Minnesota in the 1900 census. In that census, both of Albert’s parents claimed to have been born in Germany.

In the 1910 census, Albert and his family live in Murray Twp, Murray County, Minnesota. Living with the young couple and their son is Martha Rachuy, 13, “sister-in-law.” Martha was born in Nebraska.

He registered for the draft in Slayton, Minnesota, on 12 September 1918. At that time he was a farmer in Currie. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and dark brown hair.

In the 1920 census, Albert and his family are still farming in Murray Twp. Now, however, he and Anna designate their parents’ birthplaces as Luxemburg although their native language is German.

At the time of his death, his address was RFD Currie. He died from stomach cancer. Gus Bloch, presumably his brother, was the informant for his death certificate.

Ronald S. Bergstrom (‘Bubs’) of Northfield formerly of Elko, MN, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2019 at Three Links Care Center, Northfield, MN. Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Florence Bergstrom of Elko, MN; sister Doris (Raymond) Cousins of Worthington, MN; brothers Loren (Vi) Bergstrom of Chaska; Duane Bergstrom of New Market/Morristown, MN. Survived by sister Marcella ‘Marcy’ (Gordon) Tripp of Santa Clarita, CA; Sister-in-law Bernice ‘Sis’ (the late Duane) of New Market/Morristown, MN. Loved by 13 nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Ron was born November 22, 1925, in Elko and was a longtime resident. He was Elko’s 1st city clerk from 1949 - 1967. He was a driver and co-owner with his father Joseph Bergstrom of Elko Grain & Feed for many years. Ron was a long time member of The Lions Club, enjoyed bowling, his dogs and spending time with family and friends. Ron was a humble and gentle man who loved a cup of coffee and simple pleasures.

In the 1919 Seattle city directory, as Thorsten A Kvale, he and Bertha live at 3959 Holden. He is a carpenter.

He is not living with his parents in Hickory Twp, Red Lake/Pennington County in the 1920 census. He was in Seattle when his son was born and was living in Menomonie, Wisconsin, when his son died.

In the 1930 census he was Thorstein Kvale. He and his family lived at 1715 Raynor in Joliet Twp, Will County, Illinois. His occupation was building estimator.

In the 1940 census, he and his wife, their two daughters, and his mother-in-law lived in Los Angeles. He was a contractor in building construction. Everyone in the household had lived in Joliet, Illinois, five years earlier.

On June 7, 1956, he and his wife Frances, b. 3 Apr 1908, arrived in Southampton, England, aboard the S.S. Liberte for a 10 day visit. He is shown as a contractor, she as a housewife. She is a U.S. citizen, he is shown as “stateless.” They arrived back in New York on 10 Aug 1956, aboard the S.S. Ile de France, having saled from Le Havre on August 3rd. Their address was 728 W Windsor Avenue in Phoenix.

He and Frances are included in the 1956 and 1957 Phoenix city directories as living at the 728 W Windsor address. His business in the Kvale Building and Engineering Construction. In the 1957 directory, he is a building and construction engineer for the U.S. government.

In January of 1957, he applied for US citizenship. He had been “expatrioted” by taking an oath of allegiance to Canada on 18 Feb 1915.

Apparently worked with a traveling carnival when he met Fern. Fern later left for Oregon where Jay was born.

In the 1940 census, Clarence was living with his parents on the family farm in Lake Grove Twp, Mahnomen County, Minnesota. Clarence was shown as single. He had an eighth-grade education and worked in gravel hauling on a WPA road improvement project.

Clarence and Gertrude lived at 88 Spruce Place in Minneapolis, near Loring Park, at the time of their stillborn son in 1942.

He was “of Duluth” at the time of his mother’s funeral; “of Webster” at the time of his father’s funeral.

Served in the military from 1942 to 1946. In one of Ed Ellingboe’s letters to Ruby in August or September of 1942, he seems to be referring to Clarence being in Boston at that time.

In the 1946 Duluth city directory, he and Gertrude lived at 2219 South (with Melvin and Edith). Clarence was a driver for Security Stage.

In the 1950 census, Clarence and Gert, with their sons Clarence and Ronald, lived on a farm in Eureka Twp, Dakota County, Minnesota. Clarence was a farmer and Gertrude was a nurse at a city hospital.

Clarence was living in Elk River when his brother Edward died. Clarence was the informant for Edward’s death certificate. He was also living in Elk River when his brothers George and Melvin died.

On May 2, 2002, Alison drove Clarence to see the old Thompson farm in Clarissa.

Thompson Clarence, age 99, of Big Lake passed away on July 16, 2005. Preceded in death by wife, Gertrude and son, Ronald. Survived by longtime companion, Juel Biddick; sons, Jay (Leslie) Ross of Beaverton, OR, Clarence "Butch" (Wendee) Thompson of Sarona, WI, and Kenny (Dolly) Thompson of Sebeka, MN. Also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons. Clarence enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting. Funeral service 12 noon Wednesday at Dare's Funeral Home, 805 Main St., Elk River (973-441-1212). Visitation one hour prior to service Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment Orono Cemetery.

He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Trondhjem Twp as Anton C. Toso of Pelican Rapids where he is married and a self-employed farmer. He is described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light dark (?) hair.

In the rural part of the 1937/38 Fergus Falls city directory, he is listed as the owner of 120 acres in section 12 of Trondhjem Twp.
