Laurel Roberta Marcks, 66, Pepin, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at her home.
The daughter of Stanley and Ruby (Hawkins) Engel, she was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Pepin. She graduated in 1950 from Pepin High School, worked for a bank in St. Paul and later was a secretary for E.J. Longyear Co.
She married Ronald Marcks Feb. 25, 1952, in Winona, Minn., and they lived in Pepin. A lifelong member of United Methodist Church in Pepin, she enjoyed crafts and painting.
Surviving are: her husband; one daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Diers of Eau Claire; one son, Ross (Erin) of Hager City; three grandchildren; one brother, James (Nancy) Engel of Pepin; and one sister, Rosa Larson of Rochester, Minn.
Funeral was to be Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Pepin, with the Revs. Frederik Schultz and Frank Kuhlman officiating. Spring burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Pepin. Friends were to call for one hour before the service Tuesday at the church.

Laurie Ellestad Engdal, 56, a long time resident of Shoreline, died Friday, March 26, 2004 from complications of juvenile diabetes.??Mrs. Engdal was born July 8, 1947 in Mount Vernon, WA to Osville (Ozzie) and Marge Ellestad.??Laurie graduated from Burlington Edison High School in 1965, and attended Skagit Valley College where she met her husband, Jack Engdal. They were married on September 14, 1968 in Burlington.??Laurie worked for the American Diabetes Association for several years and was the original coordinator of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival's benefit walk, The Tour DeFleur. In her adult years, she attended Edmonds Community College where she graduated with a degree as a Medical Assistant. She worked for a brief time in that field.??Laurie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and continued her lifelong walk with the Lord her entire life. She attended the Community Christian Fellowship church in Edmonds until her death.??Laurie will be remembered for her artistic skills and for her love of arts and crafts. She shared her talents generously as a volunteer at her daughter's school, at the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild, and at her church.??Laurie is survived by her husband, Jack Engdal of Shoreline; daughter, Melissa Engdal and grandson Austin Scott of Mt. Lake Terrace; mother, Marjorie Ellestad of Mount Vernon; sister, Linda and brother-in-law, Bruce Dady of Oak Harbor; nephew, Mark Phay of Bellingham and niece Monica Phay of Oak Harbor; mother-in-law, Leona Engdal of Lynnwood; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her father, Osville Ellestad, preceded her in death.??In lieu of flowers, remembrances are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1200 Sixth Ave. #605, Seattle, WA 98101.??Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 1:30 PM at Faith Community Church, 10220 238th St. SW, Edmonds, WA. | ELLESTAD, Laurie (I17580)
