Last seen in the 1885 state census as 18 year-old “S.C. Christa” living with her parents and younger siblings in Minneapolis.
In the 1895 census, she is Susie C Pulford (also may be indexed as Fulford), wife of William, a railroad worker. The family lives at 3038 2nd Avenue South in Minneapolis. The Pulfords had 6 children, the oldest of which was 8 years old: Theresa, Mary L, George R, Willie, Fred F, and Bertram. Living with the Pulfords are Susies’s sisters Alice and a 64 year-old Pulford woman, probably William’s mother.
In the 1900 census, the family lives at 1019 6th Street South in Minneapolis. William is a clerk for a railroad and owns the house with a mortgage. The household consists of William, 43, Susie C, 32, Theresa, 13, Mary L, 11, George R, 9, William, 8, Frederick, 7, Bertram, 5, Corinne, 3, and Emma, 2. Susie has had 9 children, 8 still living.
In the 1910 census, the family is shown as living at 1017 5th Street. All 8 children are still at home. William is still a clerk for the railroad. “Susanna” is still shown as having had 9 children, 8 still living.
In the 1920 census, Susie is a widow, still living at 1017 5th Street. She has not become a citizen. All the children have left home except for Emma. There are some glaring errors in this census entry. Susie is shown as age 43. Emma, although she is shown as being Susie’s daughter, is shown as having parents born in France.
In the 1930 census, there is a Susan Pulford born in England who is living in Minneapolis. However, that Susan is listed as a 46 year-old widow who came to the U.S. in 1897. The address for her is 2535 16th Avenue. The entry is out of order and at the end of the census form so there may be reasons why the entry is inaccurate.
She died as Susannah Johnson, the wife of Iver. Her usual residence was Island Park in Mound. The informant for her death certificate, Mrs. Arthur Johnson, 3045 Grand Avenue S, only knew that her father’s name was Christy. She died of diabetic gangrene. | CHRISTY, Susan (I14598)
