    Notes:

    Funeral services were conducted on Monday, October 12, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Casket bearers were Rod Pederson, Kenny Jerve, Galen Rud, Merrill Morlock, Rick Christenson and Mark Morlock. Interment was in the Jevnaker Lutheran Cemetery.

    James Bloch, of Montevideo, died on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 72.

    James Edward Bloch was born on January 6, 1937 in Worthington, MN to Harold and Susan (Schmidt) Bloch. He attended Westbrook High School, graduating in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1956 and after serving four years, was honorably discharged in 1960. He spent seventeen months aboard ship in the Aleutian Islands, was stationed both in Adak and Kodiak, sailed down to Juneau and out to Attu (four times) and over the Arctic Circle to Kotzebue, stopping at Nome. Following his discharge, he worked at various companies before moving to Montevideo in 1966, where he worked at Control Data, which is currently known as MTI/SL. On December 13, 1975 he was united in marriage to Charlene Pederson at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. He was a member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church, holding numerous council positions and served one year as president. He loved to garden and was generous with his time helping others. He loved kids, doing crossword and sodoku puzzles, Nascar racing and out of door activities such as fishing and hunting.

    Survivors include his wife, Charlene; four children: Cheryl (Greg) Tovsen, Prior Lake, MN; Steve (Judy) Bloch, Montevideo, MN; Scott (Julie) Bloch, Svea, MN and Lori (Tim) McNichols, Greenville, WI; nine grandchildren; a great grandson; three sisters and seven brothers.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, two sisters-in-law, and a niece.

    In the 1880 census, he is recorded as Fredrick Blach. He and his family live in York County, Nebraska. He and his wife were born in Prussia. According to postings on Ancestry’s Bloch board, there were a number of Blochs who came to Nebraska from Pozen. Fredrick is likely a sibling or cousin of, for example, Gustav (wife Emelie) Bloch and/or Herman Rudolph Bloch. These Blochs were German Lutherans.

    In the 1895 state census, he and Augusta and family live in Rose Hill in Cottonwood County.

    He is a farmer in the Rose Hill Twp of Cottonwood County at the time of the 1900 census. He came to the U.S. in 1873 and his wife in 1877.
