Richard R. Runkle, 83, rural Grand Meadow, died early Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at the Ostrander Nursing Home in Ostrander, Minn. where he had resided for a short time.

He was born July 13, 1916 in rural Racine Pleasant Valley Township to Clifford Runkle and Alida Patten Runkle. He attended and graduated from Stewartville High School and married Catherine Jorgens on March 15, 1939 at the Bear Creek Church. They lived for a time west of Stewartville for six years and later moved back to the Bear Creek area in 1947 and together they farmed. Dick was a member of the Yomaco Club and enjoyed reading and loved to follow sporting events. He was a member of The Mower County Farm Bureau, a former member and officer of The Frankford Township Board. he was on the Bear Creek Cemetery Board and a member of the Golden Age Club in Grand Meadow.

He is survived by his wife Catherine, rural Grand Meadow, sons David Charles Runkle, Lakewood, Colo. and Steven Paul (Diane) Runkle, Minnesota City; daughter Marcheta (Richard) Faye, Albert Lea; nine grand children; nine great-grandchildren; sisters Laverne (Robert) Smalley, Ariz., Iva (William) Curtis, Stewartville, and Irene (Donald) Sinn, St. Charles, brothers Kenneth (Maxine) Runkle, Stewartville, and Gene of Grand Meadow; sister-in-laws Salley, Racine, Minn and Ann, Dalles, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one great grandchild, two brothers John and Donald "Pete", and a daughter-in-law Jan Runkle.

Richard married Ruth Catherine JORGENS on 15 Mar 1939. Ruth (daughter of John JORGENS and Cora Mathilda SKOGSTAD) was born on 5 May 1920 in Frankford Twp, Mower County, Minnesota; died on 12 Mar 2002 in Grand Meadow, Mower County, Minnesota; was buried on 15 Mar 2002 in Bear Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Frankford Twp, Mower County, Minnesota.
