Registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Williams County, North Dakota, where he was single and a self-employed farmer. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light brown hair.

In the 1920 census he was a single farmer in Tioga Twp, Williams County, North Dakota. His mother was living with him.

In the 1925 North Dakota state census, he is still single and living on the Eide farm in Tioga Twp, Williams County.

In the 1930 census, Theodore and his family were living in Poulsbo Precinct, Kitsap County, Washington. He was a farm manager at an orphans’ home. Esther was not listed and had not quite been born.

In the 1940 census, he and his family lived on Sunnyslope Road in Port Orchard, Washington, in the same house that they had lived in in 1935. Theo was a carpenter for the WPA. Theodore had an eighth-grade education, Josie had had two years of high school. All 6 of their children were at home.

Theodore registered for the World War II draft in 1942. At that time, he and Josie lived on a general delivery route in Port Orchard, Washington. He was employed by the “Gen. Construction Co.” of Bremerton, Washington.

In the 1942 Bremerton, Washington, city directory, he and Josie M lived at 804 DeKalb. He was a carpenter.

In the 1946 Bremerton directory, he and Josie lived at 806 DeKalb.

In the 1948 Bremerton directory, he was a janitor at Givens Grade School. He and Josie still lived at 804 DeKalb.

In the 1950 and 1952 Bremerton directories, he was still a janitor and he and Josie still lived at 804 DeKalb.

In the 1957 Bremerton city directory, he was a custodian for East Port Orchard School. He and Josie were still at 804 DeKalb.

In 1970 Theodore's cousin Andris was living at 5743 Enfield Ave., Encino, CA. Theodore was living at 924 Sidney Ave., Port Orchard, WA. Theodore wrote that Miss Agnes Ellingboe of Maynard, MN, was also gathering data on the Ellingboe family. , ,

She is I8325 in Jim’s Ellingboe tree revised on 24 Feb 2012. Jim shows no parents for her.

In his notes for her in that tree, Jim says: “She is probably the daughter of Knut Iverson Eltun and Gjertrud Thomasdotter Eltun. Knut moved to Bøkkadn (33/3) on N. Ellingbøe in 1868. Gjertrud's mother was Sigrid Ivarsdotter Kjerstein (1805-1879). Eltun is next to Kjerstein and there were many connections between the families. If she is this person, she would have been born 17 Apr 1863 and baptized 26 Apr 1863.”

She is not listed in Jim’s VS, either as Thrond’s wife or as Torstein Torsteinsen’s daughter.

Jim’s attribution of parentage to Knut and Gjertrud is not consistent with Anna’s 1884 marriage record to Thrond in which she is shown as Anna Thostensen Kjersten, age 20. It is also not consistent with the birth record for Anna and Thrond’s first child born in Maynard on 13 Jan 1886. In that Wang Lutheran Church record, the child’s mother is clearly shown to be “Anne T. Kjerstine.”

The parentage shown here is consistent with the birth record of the Anna born in Vestre Slidre (p.87, Vestre Slidre prestekontor 1856-1864). The farm name of that Anna’s father is something like Risiskeiet. That is consistent with Tosten Tostensen being on the Rusiskaaret farm in Vestre Slidre in the 1865 census. The bygdebok (Vang A, p. 239) shows that Tosten, son of Tosten Ivarsson Kjerstein, married Randi and left for Vestre Slidre in 1860.

Called Anna Thompson in MOMS when she married Trond in 1884. Called Anna Thostensen Kjerstein in the ELCA record (Our Savior’s in Sacred Heart) for that marriage.

Emigrated in 1867 according to the 1900 census. At that time she was 37 and a widow living with her family on a farm in Wang Township, Renville County. The household consisted of Anna, 37 (b. Mar 1863), Trond, 14 (b. Jun 1886 in Minnesota), Dina, 10 (b.. Jun 1889), Theodor, 8 (b. Oct 1891), Christine, 5 (b. Mar 1895), and Ida H., 2 (b. June 1897).

A 1913 land ownership map of Wang Twp, Renville County, shows that she owned an 80 acre parcel in or near the village or community of New Lisbon. Her parcel is contiguous and made up of the northeast quarter of the northwest quarter and the northwest quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 9.

In the 1920 census, as “Mrs. Tom,” she was keeping house for her single, 27 year-old son Theodore in Tioga Twp, Williams County, North Dakota. She was shown, probably erroneously, as 63 years old.

Living with Helen and Helen’s husband at the time of the 1930 census. In that census, she was indicated as having come to this country in 1866.

In the 1940 census, she lived in Stoneham Twp, Chippewa County, with her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and William Kramer, in the same house in which they all had lived five years earlier. Anna had a fifth-grade education.

She died from pernicious anemia.

Trond had been a farmer at Sygarde, Uvdal (gnr. 2/2) from 1833 to 1850. He took over the farm Bokkadn, i Bøkko, N. Ellingbø (now gnr. 33/3) in the Spring of 1850 when the previous owner, Jon Øysteinsson Ellingbø (Bø), emigrated to America with his family. Trond acquired the name Ellingbøe with the farm and kept it when he emigrated with his wife and 8 children (plus 2 granddaughters) in the spring (22 March) of 1862. Trond sold Bøkko to Knut Iversson Eltun on 25 April 1868 for 500 spd. It was said that Embrik and Helge Ellingbøe bought Bøkko from Trond and then sold half to Knut, and that Jon Endresson and Torstein, Helge's sons, each took over half of the remaining part (i.e., 1/4 part each). Most of the information after emigration of Trond and Kjersti was obtained from Lee Ann Ellingboe Randall.

He may be the Thomas Thompson, 56, living in Warsaw Twp, Goodhue County, in the 1870 census. The household consisted of Thomas, 56, Calista, 53, May 27, Ever 27, Andrew, 17, Betsey, 16, Ada, 12, Thomas, 11, and Betsey, 6. Only the younger Betsey was born in Minnesota. Next door was Torger Thompson with son Thomas, 6, and daughter Sarah, 3, both children born in Minnesota.

Trond settled in Renville County in 1871. According to the History of Renville County:

“Trond I. Ellingboe settled on section 4 {presumably of Wang Twp} in the fall of 1871, and lived there the remainder of his life.”

Land records show that the Benson land office issued Thrond I Ellingboe a 120 acre homestead on 3 Jun 1884. The land description is as follows:

In the 1880 census. Trond, age 66, was a farmer in Wang Township of Renville County. He lived with his wife, Kjirsti, age 64, and their son Thrond, age 22. A few farms away lived another of Trond’s sons, Andris (A. T.).

In the 1900 census, Trond, 87 (born Feb 1813) and widowed, was living with his daughter, Synneva Loe’s family in Wang Township. Synneva, age 53 (born Jul 1846), was married 23 years to Ole Loe, age 52 (born January of 1848). Synneva had borne 11 children, 6 still living. Their children at home at the time were Syver, 22 (born Sept 1877), Kirsti, 18 (born Mar 1882), and Gudbrand, 13 (born Oct 1886). Ole owned the farm. Ole had emigrated from Norway in 1872, Trond and Synneva in 1862.

From the Wang Township section of the History of Renville County:”Trond I. Ellingboe settled on section 4 in the fall of 1871, and lived there the remainder of his life. He died at the age of 89 years.”

He is Tosten Tostensen, age 44, Gaardbruger og Selveier on the Rusiskaaret farm in Vestre Slidre in the 1865 census. Tosten had a wife Rangdi Gudbrandsdatter, age 32, and three daughters: Jørønd, 9, Kari, 6, and Anne, 3.
