He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 110 and worked as an electrician for 54 years. Charlie owned and operated C.C. & S. Electric for 34 years.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Emilie; daughter, Brenda (of Inver Grove Heights); sons, Craig (of West St. Paul) and Scott (of Newport); sister, Marguerite Jorgenson; and sisters-in-law, Joanne and Eileen Ellingboe and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Olaf and Helen and brothers Clarence and Richard.

He may be the Olaf Ellingboe listed in the 1910 Minneapolis city directory. That Olaf was a packer living at 507 S 10th.

He registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Benson, Minnesota. He lists Mrs. Even Ellingboe of Route 3, Murdock, as his nearest relative. His address is also Route 3, Murdock. He is of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair.

Single and living with his mother in Kerkhoven Twp in the 1920 census.

Helene Magdalene on her birth certificate. Helen V in the 1910 census, Helen Violet in the 1920 census and in her marriage record.

She lived with her parents and siblings in Benson in the 1930 census.

In the 1940 census, she was a young widow living with her father and four childen in Torning Twp in Swift County in the same house in which Helen and the boys had lived five years earlier. Helen had an 8th grade education. She had no occupation. She owned the farm and it was worth $1900.

She may be the Helene M Ellingboe, b. 4 Feb 1908 in “other country”, d. 19 Oct 1988 in Los Angeles County, California. Her mother’s maiden name is shown as Thoren. The SSDI has the birth date for that Helen as 14 Mar 1910.

According to the obit for her son Richard, “at a very young age, [Olaf] passed away and later on [Helene] became ill, leaving the four children being placed into foster care.” In particular, Richard spent the rest of his young years being raised by foster parents in Sunburg.

She may be the Helen Ellingboe listed in the 1948 Minneapolis city directory as residing at 1408 Spruce Place and working as a helper at Gross Bros Kronick.

He was one of the two “best men” for Ove Ellingboe (#3231) in his wedding to Betsey in 1874.

In the 1875 Norwegian census, he and his wife and daughter lived on Pladsen with his father, mother, and uncle.

Farming in Kerkhoven Twp, Swift County, at the time of the 1880 and 1900 censuses. Came to this country with his wife (and daughter) in 1876.

Even is listed in the Vang out-migration records as departing for America in 1876. Even and Berith are shown as arriving in New York on May 22, 1876, aboard the S.S. Idaho from Liverpool and Queenstown. Daughter Anna is not listed on the manifest.

Of Ellingbö according to his marriage entry in the parish record and according to the entry for Anne’s birth.

Land records show that the Benson land office issued Even a 160 acre homestead on 10 Sep 1883. The land description was:

In the 1910 census, he is a farmer in Kerkhoven Twp. The household consists of Even G., 70, Beret, 61, George, 32, Olaf, 29, and Theodore, 20. George is a carpenter, the other two boys are farm laborers.

An article in the August 16th edition of the Willmar newspaper calls him Evan E Ellingboe, “about 75,” and one of the earliest settlers of the county.

She lived on Route 3, Murdock, at death. She died of a stroke. Her daughter, Mrs. R. O. Gronseth of Route 3, Murdock, was the informant for her death certificate.

In the 1920 census, he is Charley Thoren, 60, living with his family in Benson. He was a plasterer for houses.

In the 1930 census, he was no longer working. He and his wife and his three daughters still lived in Benson in a house they own. It’s a pretty nice house, worth $5000. He came to the U.S. in 1881.

In the 1940 census, he was a widower and was living with his widowed daughter Helen and her family in Torning Twp.

He farms Pladsen, Vang, in the 1865 census. The household consists of Jørgen, 63, Anne, 62, Even, 26, Anders, 13, Sigri, 21, and Ole Evensson, 74. Everyone other than Jørgen and Anne are unmarried. Even and Ole are tailors.
