There has been some suggestion that Martin was a twin with a Marie. There is no birth (or death) record for such a twin.

In the 1910 Norwegian census, Martin lived with his brother Georg Gudbrandsen and his family on Stensrud (plads) in Lunner, Oppland. Martin had the birth date shown here for him.

Born in Nannestad according to the 1900 census. That also seems to be indicated in the record for his marriage. The corresponding entry for Marte indicates that she was born in Grinækereiet. The Gran marriage database in Digitalarkivet interprets the marriage record as saying that Gudbrand was born in Plads Hellern i Nannestad, which is also where he resided, and Marte was born in Horgeneiet but resided in Grinækereiet.

Neither of her parents seems to be listed in the 1865 Norwegian census. She is probably the 16 year-old Marthe Olsdatter who is a servant on the Haldor Bredesen farm, “Gjefsen nedre og nord”, in Næs in Gran. There is an Anne Olsdatter, b. 1854, also working there as “Lægdslem paa Gaarden.”

(That Anne is probably not Marte’s sister. That Anne seems to be the one born on June 17, 1854, to Ole Andersen Østiens or Øskiens and Birthe Olsdatter.)
