Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Iver Iversson ELLINGBOE was born on 26 Jul 1879 in Warsaw Twp, Goodhue County, Minnesota (son of Ivar Trondsson ELLINGBØE and Ambjørg Eiriksdotter KASA); died on 24 Aug 1959 in Colorado; was buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Baptism: 17 Aug 1879, Vang Lutheran Church, Dennison, Goodhue County, Minnesota
    • Confirmation: 11 Dec 1892, Vang Lutheran Church, Dennison, Goodhue County, Minnesota

    Notes:

In the 1900 census, he is a boarder with his brother Thrond on the farm of Kari Lee, a 76 year-old widow (#23958) in Newburg Twp, Mitchell County, Iowa. This household includes two of Kari’s single daughters (Carrie, 41, and Julia, 39) as well as Kari’s 103 year-old (!) mother-in-law, Guri.

In the 1905 Pueblo, Colorado, city directory, he is Iver Ellinghoe, laborer, boarding at 1019 Northern Avenue.

In the 1909 Pueblo city directory, he is Ivar Ellingboe, an employee of the Steel Works. He resides at 2132 E Routt Avenue.

In the 1910 census, he lived at 1307 Cypress Street in Pueblo, Colorado, where he works at a steel mill. His wife is Nellie. They have been married for four years and it is the first marriage for each. Nellie has had one child, no longer living. Included in the household is Oscar Lee, 50, born in Iowa, “cousin” and a 31 year-old male, name illegible, roomer.

In the 1915 Pueblo city directory, his wife is Mary and he is a steel worker. They live at 1307 Cypress.

The 1916 directory includes a Theresa Ellingboe, clerk, also living at 1307 Cypress. She is a step-daughter of Iver’s, the daughter of Mary with John Grome.

Iver registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Pueblo County. Because the name of his employer (Colorado Fuel & Iron Co.) was stamped on the card, the company probably arranged the registration for its employees. At that time Iver and his wife Mary were living at 1027 Pine in Pueblo. He was described as tall and of slender build with brown eyes and light hair. He had lost the end of his right index finger after the second joint.

In the 1920 census, he is still working for the steel mill in Pueblo.

In the 1930 census, he is still working for the steel mill in Pueblo as a melter foreman.

In the 1931 Pueblo city directory, he is a melter for CF&I. He resides St. Charles Mesa.

In the 1940 census, he and Mary L live in Pueblo. He is a melter in a steel mill. He had been educated through the fourth grade, his wife through the fifth grade. Also part of their household was Rose Ann Southers, age 13, niece, and Peggy Ellingboe, age 7, daughter. Peggy and Rose Ann had also lived with Ivar and Mary at this house in 1935. Peggy and Rose Ann were born in Utah. The next census entry after Ivar was for his son Robert and Robert’s wife Ann E and son Robert Jr. Rose was the daughter of Van and Josephine Southers. The family was recorded in the 1930 census in Utah. Van Southers was born in Georgia and may have been a brother of Mary L. No Ellingboes were ever born in Utah so we don’t know who Peggy is. She could not have been the natural daughter of Mary L.

The 1945 Pueblo city directory shows Iver as a melter for CF&I.

His employment record at CF&I shows he worked for that company continuously between about 1902 to at least May of 1945. Along the way he lost one of his index fingers. The company employment card listed him as 5 ft 10.5 inches tall, 160.5 lbs., dark grey eyes and light brown hair.

Iver married Nellie D about 1906, and was divorced on 26 Mar 1912 in Pueblo County, Colorado. Nellie was born about 1888 in Australia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Children:
    1. Oscar Lee ELLINGBOE was born in 1906; died in 1908; was buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado.

Iver married Mary Lee SOUTHERS on 10 May 1913 in Pueblo County, Colorado. Mary was born about 1884 in Georgia; died on 21 Nov 1964 in Colorado; was buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Children:
    1. Robert Iver ELLINGBOE was born on 8 Feb 1918 in Gilbert, Maricopa County, Arizona; died on 15 Jul 1981 in Klamath County, Oregon; was buried in Keno Cemetery, Keno, Klamath County, Oregon.
    2. Peggy Jo ELLINGBOE was born on 31 Oct 1932 in Utah; died on 9 Dec 1986; was buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.

  1. 2.  Ivar Trondsson ELLINGBØE was born on 8 Oct 1843 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway (son of Trond Iversson ELLINGBØE (OPDAL, UVDAL) and Kjersti Helgesdotter KJERSTEIN); died on 29 Apr 1881 in Minnesota; was buried on 5 May 1881 in Vang Lutheran Church Cemetery, Dennison, Goodhue County, Minnesota.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Baptism: 5 Nov 1843, Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway
    • Confirmation: 20 May 1858, Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway

    Notes:

Born in Uvdal 2/2 Sygardé. Resided in Bøkkadn 33/3 av Ellingbø between 1850 and 1862. Emigrated the U.S. in 1862.

He is probably the Ivar Throndson Ellingboe, “from the Vang Congregation,” who contributed money to the start-up of St. Olaf College.

Apparently went by the name of Thompson at the time of the 1880 census. The family is shown, living on a farm in Warsaw, Goodhue County, as: Iver Thompson, age 36, his wife Ambjor, 29, son Trond, 7, daughter Kjirsti, 5, son Erik, 3, and son Iver, 10 months (born in July of 1879). The family had a servant living with them named Thorwald Hanson, age 20.

Apparently he is the Iver Throndson Ellingboe buried in Vang Cemetery. Born 8 Oct 1843, died 29 April 1881. He would have died just shortly after his youngest son was conceived.

Ivar married Ambjørg Eiriksdotter KASA on 18 Jun 1872 in Holden Lutheran Church, Kenyon, Goodhue County, Minnesota. Ambjørg (daughter of Eirik Helgesson KASA and Berit Johnsdatter NYSTUEN) was born on 10 Jan 1849 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway; died on 18 Aug 1936 in Warsaw Twp, Goodhue County, Minnesota; was buried on 22 Aug 1936 in Vang Lutheran Church Cemetery, Dennison, Goodhue County, Minnesota. Other Events and Attributes:

    • Minnesota Death Certificate: 1936-MN-004948
    • Baptism: 18 Feb 1849, Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway

    Notes:

She is I4391 in Jim’s Ellingboe tree.

Jim’s notes (according to a letter from Vickie H.):

"Ambjør," as her name was written in earlier records, was five years old when her family of eight immigrated to the Spring Prairie community in Columbia County, Wisconsin. In 1861 her family came to Warsaw Township in Goodhue County, where she spent the rest of her life. On May 22, 1864, Ambjor was confirmed with 13 others at Holden Lutheran Church, rural Kenyon. Her parents later joined Vang Lutheran Church in Dennison. After marriage Ambjor and Iver lived in Warsaw Township near the Kasa farm. She became a widow at the age of 32 years, and gave birth to her 5th child eight months after Iver's death. In 1911 Ambjor sold, to her son Erik, 126 acres in sections 20 and 29 of Warsaw Township for $7,000. At the time of the 1930 census, she was living with Erik and his family. Prior to her death, she lived with her daughter Christine in Dennison. Ambjor was the last surviving child of Erika and Berit Nystuen Kasa's seven children. She and Iver had five children.

Shown as “Ambjor” on her death certificate.

Find A Grave says that she came to the U.S. with her parents in 1854.

In the 1885 state census she is a widow living with her five children in Warsaw Twp next to her Kasa siblings and parents.

In the 1895 state census she is Ambjor Ellingboe, living with her five children in Warsaw Twp.

In the 1900 census, shown as having emigrated in 1860.

In the 1900 census, she and her family were living in Warsaw Township, Goodhue County, MN. The family consisted of Ambjor, 50 (Jan 1850), widowed and the mother of 3 children, her son, Erik, 23 (Mar 1877), her son Iver J., 18 (Jan 1882), and her grand-daughter Emeline, 4 (Apr 1896). Both of Emeline’s parents were born in Minnesota. A Helge Kasa and family, perhaps Ambjor’s brother, lived two farms away.

In the 1910 census, she is living with her son Erick and his family. She is shown to have had 5 children, apparently 5 still living.

Her son Iver’s employment registration card at CF&I listed her as Mrs. Emma Elllingboe of Dennison, Minnesota, his nearest blood relative.

    Birth:
Find A Grave says 12 Jan 1849, her obit and the bygdebok say 12 Jan 1850, the ELCA church record for her burial says 10 Jan 1849

  1. 4.  Trond Iversson ELLINGBØE (OPDAL, UVDAL) was born on 16 Feb 1813 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway (son of Iver Trondsson /OPDAL UVDAL and Velgjerd Trondsdotter BREKKE); died on 20 Jan 1902 in Wang Twp, Renville County, Minnesota; was buried on 23 Jan 1902 in Wangs Lutheran Church Cemetery, Wang Twp, Renville County, Minnesota.

    Notes:

Trond had been a farmer at Sygarde, Uvdal (gnr. 2/2) from 1833 to 1850. He took over the farm Bokkadn, i Bøkko, N. Ellingbø (now gnr. 33/3) in the Spring of 1850 when the previous owner, Jon Øysteinsson Ellingbø (Bø), emigrated to America with his family. Trond acquired the name Ellingbøe with the farm and kept it when he emigrated with his wife and 8 children (plus 2 granddaughters) in the spring (22 March) of 1862. Trond sold Bøkko to Knut Iversson Eltun on 25 April 1868 for 500 spd. It was said that Embrik and Helge Ellingbøe bought Bøkko from Trond and then sold half to Knut, and that Jon Endresson and Torstein, Helge's sons, each took over half of the remaining part (i.e., 1/4 part each). Most of the information after emigration of Trond and Kjersti was obtained from Lee Ann Ellingboe Randall.

He may be the Thomas Thompson, 56, living in Warsaw Twp, Goodhue County, in the 1870 census. The household consisted of Thomas, 56, Calista, 53, May 27, Ever 27, Andrew, 17, Betsey, 16, Ada, 12, Thomas, 11, and Betsey, 6. Only the younger Betsey was born in Minnesota. Next door was Torger Thompson with son Thomas, 6, and daughter Sarah, 3, both children born in Minnesota.

Trond settled in Renville County in 1871. According to the History of Renville County:

“Trond I. Ellingboe settled on section 4 {presumably of Wang Twp} in the fall of 1871, and lived there the remainder of his life.”

Land records show that the Benson land office issued Thrond I Ellingboe a 120 acre homestead on 3 Jun 1884. The land description is as follows:

    1 S½SW 5TH PM No 116 N 38 W 4
    2 SWSE 5TH PM No 116 N 38 W 4

In the 1880 census. Trond, age 66, was a farmer in Wang Township of Renville County. He lived with his wife, Kjirsti, age 64, and their son Thrond, age 22. A few farms away lived another of Trond’s sons, Andris (A. T.).

In the 1900 census, Trond, 87 (born Feb 1813) and widowed, was living with his daughter, Synneva Loe’s family in Wang Township. Synneva, age 53 (born Jul 1846), was married 23 years to Ole Loe, age 52 (born January of 1848). Synneva had borne 11 children, 6 still living. Their children at home at the time were Syver, 22 (born Sept 1877), Kirsti, 18 (born Mar 1882), and Gudbrand, 13 (born Oct 1886). Ole owned the farm. Ole had emigrated from Norway in 1872, Trond and Synneva in 1862.

From the Wang Township section of the History of Renville County:”Trond I. Ellingboe settled on section 4 in the fall of 1871, and lived there the remainder of his life. He died at the age of 89 years.”
