  1. 2.  Arthur Gilbert ELLINGBOE was born on 16 Jan 1894 in Lawrenceburg, Lawrence County, Tennessee (son of Gulbrand (Gilbert) Christopherson ELLINGBØE and Anna THOMPSON SANDNESS); died on 29 Oct 1929 in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona; was buried in 1929 in Evergreen Memorial Park, Tucson, Pima County, Arizona.

    Notes:

Earlier information confirmed and augmented by Roy Ellingboe, 5 November 1994. Shown simply as Arthur in the 1900 census.

In the 1915 Rochester, Minnesota, city directory, he may be the Arthur G Ellingboe, telephone operator for the C G W R R, boarding at 13 N Central.

Not listed in the WWI draft registrations. According to the records of the Mountain Branch (Johnson City, Tennessee) home for disabled soldiers, Arthur enlisted on June 30, 1915, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and he served as a private in the 424th Railway Telegraph Battalion Signal Corps until January 15, 1919, when he was demobilized and discharged at Camp Wadsworth, South Carolina. After his discharge, he resided in Dundee, Mississippi and worked as a telegraph operator.

He was admitted to the Johnson City home on September 11, 1925. His disabilities were chronic pulmonary tuberculosis, far advanced. He was 31 years old, 5 feet seven-and-a-half inches tall, and had a fair complexion with blue eyes and red hair. He was “dropped from the rolls” at the Johnson City home on December 4, 1925.

We can assume that he and his family then moved to Arizona because of the climate being more hospitable to a person with TB.

In the 1927 and 1928 and 1929 Tucson city directories, he and Lucile live at 1128 Elm. His occupation at the time of the birth of his twins, was “disabled soldier.”

Clarence B Halland, Chairman of the Cemetery Committee of the Tucson American Legion, applied for Arthur’s military headstone in October of 1930.

    Died:
He died at the U.S. Veterans’ Hospital in Tucson.

Arthur married Jessie Lucile PRESTON in 1923. Jessie was born on 10 Jul 1897 in Tchula, Holmes County, Mississippi; died in Jan 1980 in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona; was buried in South Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Went by Lucile.

Her address while her husband was in the Johnson City Home was 702 W. Main Street, Johnson City, Tennessee.

In the 1930 Tucson, Arizona, city directory, she was Lucille P Ellingboe, the widow of Arthur G, living in a house at 1128 E Elm Street.

In the 1930 census, Lucille and family were living in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. Lucille had taken in two roomers but, otherwise, she had no occupation.

In the 1931 Tucson city directory, she is Mrs. Lucille Ellingboe, 1128 E Elm Street.

In the 1936 Tucson city directory, she is Lucille P Ellingboe, student at the U of A, still living at 1128 E Elm.

In the 1940 census, she and her children live at 1128 E Elm Street. She is a grade teacher in a public school. She had had four years of college and was a 42 year-old widow.

In the 1941 and 1948 Tucson city directories, she is Mrs. Lucille P Ellingboe, a teacher at Ochoa School. She still lives at 1128 Elm.

In the 1950 census, she and Mary lived in 1128 Elm in Tucson. She was an elementary school teacher.

She retired from teaching in June of 1963 but then taught the first kindergarten class on the Papago Indian Reservation.
