In the 1900 census, he was a widower farmer who lived in Winnebago County, Iowa, with his nine children.

In the 1900 census, he lived in Verner Twp, Sargent County, North Dakota, with his wife of 8 years and seven children, two of whom are theirs, three of whom are hers by her first marriage, and two of which are his by his earlier marriages. He was a merchant with a general store.

Halvor married Marit (Marie) Torsteinsdatter KVÅLE on 30 Nov 1901 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Marit (daughter of Tosten Helgesson QVALE and Berit Gulbrandsdatter ØYLO) was born on 25 Aug 1860 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway; died on 28 May 1946 in Le Sueur County, Minnesota; was buried in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Flom, Norman County, Minnesota. Came to the U.S. in 1885 according to a rootsweb entry. She married Ole Christoferson in Minneapolis and four children with him before he died in 1899. She then married Halvor Ormbreck. They moved to “the Flom community” in Norman County in northwestern Minnesota and had two children (Halvor Ormbreck had seven children from an earlier marriage).

An Oscar Bernhard Ormbreck, b. 9 Jun 1893 in Minneapolis, claimed Mrs. Maret Ormbreck as his mother in a job application to the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1943. He claimed Edward Alfred Ormbreck was his brother.

In the 1910 census, she had had six children, five still living.

In the 1920 census, she was a widow in Ulen Village, Clay County, Minnesota. Living with her were her five children, Christ, Oscar, Alfred, Hertha, and Ingeborg.

In the 1930 and 1940 censuses, she was still in Ulen, living with Oscar and Alfred.
