    Notes:

Maryln Alice Soine (nee Luses), 86, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2011, Mount Vernon, with her family at her side. She was born July 13, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, to John and Mary Luses. Although she was an only child, her cousin Joan, who lived around the block was like a sister and they remained close all their lives. After graduating from high school she went on to college, and then worked at a daycare center for several years. During this time (WWII) she became a volunteer at the Cleveland Stage Door Canteen, a military serviceman's' club. Here she met the love of her life and future husband, Clayton Soine. After the war, they were married February 25, 1946, in Cleveland. They then began their married life by traveling to Mount Vernon, WA, where Clayton had grown up. Maryln, as an only child, had no idea of what she was in for as Clayton had 13 siblings! But the Soine clan made her feel more than welcome. Clayton's first job was at Whiz Fish in LaConner and Maryln first found employment at a local lunch counter then as a secretary for a local business. Their family started on May 13, 1948, with the birth of their daughter Candice Louise. Three years later she was followed by the twins, John Christopher and Robyn Marie on June 28, 1951. Eight years later, as Maryln was preparing to go back to college for her teaching degree, she found out she was pregnant with her fourth and final child, Phillip Clayton, who joined us on April 23, 1959. Her family was now complete two boys and two girls, just what she always wanted. After Phillip entered the first grade in 1966, Maryln reentered the workforce. She was hired by the Mount Vernon School District as the secretary to the High School librarian. Later she was promoted to the position of book processing secretary for all the libraries the entire school district. Marylyn retired from the School District in 1989. She, Clayton, and Robyn, then started their own business, Soine's Teaching Tools, in Mount Vernon. The idea was something to keep them busy in their retirement. Other than the business Maryln kept busy with her needlework, sewing, and reading, especially murder mysteries. She and Clayton also loved to visit friends and travel. They took many trips in Washington and the Oregon Coast, as well as longer trips to Washington, DC, and Hawaii. They loved spending time together. We are a close family. Our parents took us camping and on sightseeing trips many times a year. We always got together for birthdays and special holidays. Mom loved having us around as much as possible and often said that she had very special place in her heart for each of us. Maryln was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clayton. She is survived by her four children; Candice (Burlington), Robyn and her husband Dan Parkin (Mount Vernon), John at the family home in Mount Vernon, and Phillip (Bellingham), and her granddaughter, Quinn Soine (Massachusetts). She will be truly missed by her family and many friends. In lieu of flowers please make donations to either the Christian Science Church, Neighbors in Need, Friendship House, The Skagit Valley Herald Christmas Fund, or a charity of your choice. A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 am, March 19, 2011, Fir Conway Lutheran Cemetery near Milltown.
