    In the 1920 census, the newly-married George and Lucy were living in the city of Fort Dodge with his twice-widowed mother Bridget Miller, 62, and his sister Bernadetta Hanson, 21. Their address in Fort Dodge was 1211 3rd Avenue S. George was a yardmaster for a steam railway.

    In the 1925 Iowa census, George, 38, Lucy, and their two children lived in Wahkonsa Twp, Webster County (probably Fort Dodge) at 1322 2nd Avenue S. George had lived his whole life in Iowa but Lucy, age 32, had only been in Iowa for 21 years. Their children were Mary E, 4, and Robert J, 2. George had been educated through 8th grade but Lucy through 11th grade.

    In the 1940 census, the family still lived in Fort Dodge. George, 53, was a switchman for the railroad. He had a sixth-grade education. Lucy was a high school graduate and was 47. Living at home with them were Mary, 19, a high school graduate working as a switchboard operator at a hospital, Robert, 17, no occupation, with an eighth-grade education, Grace, 14, Gertrude, 12, and Evelyn 10.

    Notes:

    He arrived in the U.S. in New York in May of 1882 with his parents and siblings aboard the Bohemia which had departed from Hamburg. The family was from Prussia. Their name on the ship’s manifest appears to be “Cziok” or “Cjiok.”

    In the 1910 census, he is Constantino J Czock, a roadmaster for the railroad, living with his family in Fort Dodge, Iowa. All the children are still at home.

    In the 1915 Iowa census, he is a track supervisor in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

    In September of 1918, when his son Lambert registered for the draft, he lived at 503 South 17th Street in Fort Dodge.

    Constantine, still alive in the 1920 census when the family lived in Fort Dodge, was a supervisor for the railroad.

    In the 1885 state census, she was still living at home in Delano with her parents and broter.

    In the 1900 census, she, as Frances Chock, lives with Constantine and their five children in Minneapolis. Their residence, a rented house, is at 19th Street and Morgan Avenue. Constantine is a section foreman, presumably for a railroad. She had had five children, all still living.

    In the 1910 census, she is shown as having had 8 children, six still living.

    In the 1925 Iowa census, she was the 59 year-old widow Mrs. C J Chock living with her 27 year-old daughter Gertrude Chock in Wahkonsa Twp, Webster County, Iowa.

    In the 1930 census she was Frances Chock, a 64 year-old widow living in Fort Dodge with her 32 year-old daughter Gertrude who was a private secretary for the railroad superintendent.

    In the 1940 census, she was living with the Hanrahans in Fort Dodge.

    The family name may have been Fautz.

    Cheryl’s source says that Brinitz, the town where the Fautches may have come from, was Brinnitz, Kries Oppeln, Prussia. The village is named Brynica, Opole, Poland today. Historically, this is part of Upper Silesia which consisted of both German speakers and Polish speakers.

    Another source has the Fautsches originating from Hirschfelde, Poland.

    He, as Balthasar Fautsch, 57, came to the U.S. with his family in 1868 from Germany. They arrived in New York (Castle Garden) on June 2nd aboard the S.S. Borussia which had departed Hamburg May 16th. The family consisted of Balthasar, 57, Eva, 43, Rochus, 19, Mathias, 16, Joseph, 14, Franz, 7, Johanna, 6, Elsie, 5, and Francesca, 3.

    In the 1875 state census, he and his family live in Franklin Twp, Wright County. All seven children are still single and living at home.

    In the 1880 census, Bartholomew and family farmed in Franklin Twp, Wright County. The household consisted of Bartholomew, 65, Eva, 54, Joseph, 25, Frank, 23, Lizzie, 18, and Franciska, 14. All in the family were born in Prussia as were all of their neighbors. Also living in Franklin Twp was the Franz Fautsch (b. 1840) family and Anna Fautsch (b. 1860) who was a dressmaker living in the village of Delano.

    In the 1885 state census, he lived in Delano. The household consisted of B. Fautsch, 67, Eva Fautsch, 59, Frank Fautsch, 24, and Francis Fautsch, 19. All were born in Poland.

    He and Neva lived in the village of Delano, Franklin Twp, Wright County at the time of the 1900 census. He and Neva came to this country from Poland in 1866.

    He died of old age.

    Called Neva in the 1900 census. In that census, she is shown as having had 8 children, 7 still living. If Frank died in 1892, as is shown here, then that extra child must have been born in Poland and was still alive (either in Poland or the U.S., having come over separately) as of 1900.

    One source (Elizabeth’s death record) shows her name as Frances Freemark.
