Oluf married Synneva Pedersdotter about 1878. Synneva (daughter of Peder Eriksen and Anna Christensdotter) was born on 8 Nov 1853 in Hafslo, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway; died in 1934; was buried in Viroqua Cemetery, Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

As Synneve Pedersdatter Marifjæra, age 20½, she left Hafslo for America on April 4th, 1874.

In the 1880 census, she and Oluf were listed on the census form just above the Claus Bowe family.

In the 1900 census, she is Soneve Gunnery, b. Nov 1853, living with her husband Oluf in the town of Franklin. Also in the household was his nephew, Octave Gunderson or Anderson, b. Aug 1890 in Wisconsin, and “wife’s cousin” Ida M. Johnson, b. May 1881 in Wisconsin. Soneve and Oluf had been married for 22 years. Soneve is shown as having come to the U.S. in 1870, Oluf in 1853.

In the 1910 census, they are Oluf and Synava Gunery, farmers in the town of Franklin. Living with them is Oluf’s nephew, Guy Anderson.

In the 1920 census, they are Oluf and Susie Gunary, living in the town of Franklin just a few farms over from (and on the same census page as) the Ole Allness farm. Living next door (one line up on the census form) is Octave G Anderson, 29, living with his wife Mand or Maud, 24, and their daughter Juliet Marie, 2.

In the 1930 census, she is Susan Gunery, 76, living on the Guy Anderson farm as “adoptive mother.” Guy’s wife is Mande or Maude. No children listed.

Notes:

She was illegitimate, the daughter of Anna Pedersdatter Sandvig (2nd leirmal) and Christen Johanssen Marifjæren.

She later married Nils Larsson Marifjæren. According to Arne, in the 1865 census, Anna and Nils and lived in Strandstedet Marifjæren. Living with them were their three children as well as Synneva.
