Called Robert in the 1880 census.

The parish register shows his parents as Ole Jensen Nedre Qvamme and Mari Jensdatter.

The Rauk family tree has him born 11 Jul 1832 in Vang, parents Ole Jensen Kvamme and Mari.

The Lærdahl35766 family tree has him born in Laerdal, Sogn og Fjordane, to Ola Jensson Neset (1792-1874) and Mari Jensdatter Neset (1789-1881).

From an entry from genealogy.com, obvious mistakes corrected:

Roar Qvamme (son of Ole Qvamme and Mari) was born 1835 in Lerdahl Sogn, Norway, and died 1925. He married Anne Kjos of Nerstrand, Goodhue County, Minnesota, daughter of Andres Kjos and Anne Hogan.

Roar Qvame was born in 1832 in Lerdahl, Sogn. The country was exceedingly mountainous and they lived on a little farm among the mountains. Ole, his father was a husman, that is, he worked for a large landowner under a system similar to feudalism in its mildest form. All the land in that territory was alloted thus.

    His brothers and sisters:

Jens Qvamme, lived to be 98, died in Norway.
Johannes Qvamme, lived to be 83.
Kari Qvamme, immigrated to America, Blooming Prarie Wis., lived to be 90.
Unni Qvamme, immigrated to America, Valley Grove, MN, lived to be 92.
Sigrid Qvamme, immigrated to America, near Lisborn Wis. lived to be 92.

I have listed the ages or Roar's family in order to show the great age that they attained. My grandfather, Roar, lived to be 93 years old.

He was strong and ambitious and hired out as a worker from the time he was 14 years old. He was a fisherman in Eastlandet for some years and then worked on the roads that were being built through the mountains for a few years.

Finally, in 1854, when he was 26, he decided to come to America to better himself financially. He made the journey alone, although a sister Sigrid, was already over there. He embarked on a sailship and it took him sixteen weeks to come accross.

He came to Kasteland (Kaskeland), Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, to the home of his sister. He worked in the vicinity for some years. He went to Red Wing and homesteaded 160 acres in Holden Township, Goodhue County. Here he built a log cabin and lived the life of a bachelor. He had a pair of oxen and one cow.

He was a short, stockily built man with a straight back and a brisk walk. He was very handsome and weighed about 160 pounds. He was exceptionally shrewd in money matters and business deals and was never beat in any sort of deal. His was a suspicious nature and he was selfish and clever. He took special care of himself and saw to it that he got the best food at all times.

He was 37 years old when he married Anne Kjos, 21 years old, in 1869.
