In the 1940 census, he was single and living with his parents and siblings. He was a truck driver for a fruit or produce company. He had had two years of high school. He earned $208 in 1939.

Robert Edward Duffy married Jean Eleanor Warner in Hennepin County on 31 Aug 1940. That couple had three children, all born in Hennepin County: Michael James, 24 Nov 1941; Patrick Robert, 15 Oct 1943; and Kathleen Eleanor, 9 May 1945.

In the 1940 Minneapolis city directory, Robert and Jean lived at 1931 Park Avenue. He was a clerk.

Robert E Duffy enlisted in the U.S. Army on 1 Aug 1945 at Fort Snelling. He was married. His enlistment record shows that he had had two years of high school and that his civilian occupation was “machine shop and related occupations.” He was a private in the Army during World War II.

In the 1950 census, he and Jean and Michael and Kathleen lived in an apartment at 3612 16th Avenue in south Minneapolis. He was unemployed but was an inspector for an airline.

The Duffys lived at 9009 Bryant Avenue in Bloomington in late 1954 and at the time of Harry Duffy’s death in March of 1956.

The 1993 address shown for him and Laine in the U.S. Public Records index (Vol. 1) was 4500 Lords St NE in Prior Lake.

In the 1930 census, Jean Warner lived with her mother, Eleanor Warner, at the home of Eleanor’s parents, Hakon and Olga Rude, in south Minneapolis.

Jean Eleanor Thomas, aka Warner, b. 27 Nov 1920 in Minnesota (1920-49081), died in Ventura County, California, on 24 Nov 1994. Her mother’s maiden name was Rude.

A Kimberly E Thomas, mother’s maiden name Warner, was born in Ventura County, California, on 1 Jan 1964.

Jean E Thomas, b. 24 Nov 1920, lived at 1304 Egret Ave in Ventura. An Aaron Thomas, b. 26 Oct 1959, also lived at that address. That Aaron M Thomas was born in Ventura County to a woman whose maiden name was Alle.

The Schnellman Family Tree and biegel Family Tree on Ancestry.com incorrectly show his parents as John Duffy (1844-1917) and Ellen Gallery (1851-1922). That couple resided in Scott County, Minnesota, in 1900. The Harry cited as their son was born in Minnesota in 1890.

The 1900 census, in which he is shown as Henry Duffy, age 14, born Jun 1885, has his family living in Lincoln, Nebraska.

In the 1906 city directory of Lincoln, Nebraska, he was Henry Duffy, a laborer rooming at 111 N 12th. He was not in the 1905 Lincoln directory.

In the 1907 Lincoln directory, he is probably the Henry E Duffy, driver, residing at 1328 O.

In the 1908 Lincoln directory, he is probably the Henry Duffy, switchman C B & Q, residing at 2013 O.

In the 1909 Lincoln directory, he may be the Henry Duffy, driver for Miller & Paine, living at 328 N 7th.

He is not listed in the 1910 Lincoln directory.

Nebraska Marriages shows Henry E Duffy, b. ca 1885, age 20, married Myrtle Dyer, age 19, in Lancaster, Nebraska, on 15 Dec 1905. Henry was the son of James Duffy and Rachel Ivers.

He registered for the draft as Harry Edward Duffy on September 9, 1918, in Minneapolis. He gave his permanent address as 1847 East 25th-and-a-half Street in Minneapolis although he listed his nearest relative as Ida M. T. Duffy of 633 East 5th Street in St. Paul. Harry was short and of medium build with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He was a railroad brakeman for the River Division of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad. For this registration, the registrant was not required to provide his place of birth.

He and his family lived at 1808 East 24th Street in Minneapolis at the time of the 1920 census. Harry was born in Kansas, as was his father. Harry’s mother was born in Nebraska.

In the 1930 census, in which for some reason he was entered as “Dubby”, he and his family lived at 2111 Snelling Avenue in Minneapolis. He was a railroad switchman and was not a veteran. Both of his parents had been born in Ireland.

In the 1940 census, Harry is shown as born in Minnesota. He and Ida and all of their children live at 3105 33rd Avenue S in a rented residence. Harry was not employed and was unable to work. Harry and Ida had fourth-grade educations. The main breadwinners for the household appear to be Robert, George, and Raymond. The address of 3105 33rd Avenue S was also the address Harry gave for his daughter Marion’s death certificate.

There was a Pearl, age 1, in the family in the 1940 census but this must have been a confusion with Raymond’s new wife who also may have been living in the household at the time.

Harry was never in the armed services. He died of basilar artery thrombosis. His body was autopsied. The informant for his death certificate was his son, Robert E Duffy of 9009 Bryant Avenue South.

Henry married Ida Matilda Martha JANISCH on 3 Jun 1931 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Ida (daughter of William Theodore JANISCH and Amelia KOHLMANN) was born on 25 Apr 1899 in Morgan, Redwood County, Minnesota; died on 15 Mar 1990 in Hennepin County, Minnesota; was buried in Bloomington Cemetery, Hennepin County, Minnesota. She died as Ida Duffy. Her son Raymond was the informant for her death certificate. At that time Raymond lived at 5649 Garfield Avenue South in Minneapolis. Ida normally lived at 9200 Nicollet in Bloomington. Ida was the widow of Harry. She died of sepsis and diabetes.

In the 1930 census, a married Archie N Warner, age 29, was an inmate at the Minnesota State Reformatory in St. Cloud.

A Mrs. Archie N. Warner (Irene Nedberg) died in Minneapolis in October of 1940. She was 31 years old.

Archie N. Warner, age 42, an alleged deserter from the army, was captured in April of 1943 by Hennepin County sheriff’s officers.

Archie married Eleanor Alice RUDE on 22 May 1920 in Hennepin County, Minnesota, and was divorced about Oct 1923 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Eleanor (daughter of Haakon RUDE and Olga FOSSEN) was born on 6 Jun 1902 in Minnesota; died on 3 Jun 1981 in Los Angeles County, California. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

In the 1870 census, he is probably the 16 year-old James Duffy, son of Peter, 50, and Elizabeth Duffy, 40, of Center Twp, Doniphan County, Kansas. Peter was born in Scotland, Elizabeth was born in Ireland. James’s older sibling, Mary, 18, was born in Scotland. His younger sibling, Henry, 10, was born in Kansas.

In the 1880 census, he and his family farm in the Peru Precinct of Nemaha County, Nebraska. He is shown as having a father born in Scotland and a mother in Ireland. His brother-in-law, A. J. Ivers, age 30, lives with them. Both girls (”Z.E.” and Sylvia, 2 months old) are shown as having the measles.

In the 1900 census, he is a railroad yardman, living with his family in Lincoln, Nebraska.

In the 1910 census, he is a widower. He still lives in Lincoln and still works for the railroad, now as a signalman. Ralph and Francis live with him.

In the 1920 census, as James “Duffey”, he is a roomer with a family in Lincoln. He is a flagman for the railroad. In this census, he shows his father as born in Scotland and his mother in Ireland.

He and his family lived on a farm in Morgan, Redwood County, Minnesota, at the time of the 1900 census. William came to the U. S. in 1890.

The family lived in Sherman Twp. Redwood County, Minnesota, at the time of the 1910 census.

In the 1920 census, William and Amelia lived in Sleepy Eye. William was a laborer for the railroad.

In the 1930 census, as William Janisch, he and Amelia, their three youngest children, and a grandson, Kenneth, lived in New Ulm. No one in the household had an occupation. Kenneth was born Kenneth Harold Janisch on 9 Jun 1922 in Brown County. That birth is not recorded in the MHS index of Minnesota birth certificates. Kenneth married Violet A Pechtel on 1 Aug 1947 in Brown County, Minnesota. That Kenneth Janisch died in St. Paul on 6 Jul 1987. According to the MHS death certificate index, Kenneth’s mother’s maiden name was Brown which suggests that his mother may have been Hattie.

In the 1940 census, as William Janisch, he and Amelia and son Sylvan and daughter Anna (Hedwig?) lived in New Ulm.

William married Amelia KOHLMANN about 1894. Amelia was born on 6 Nov 1877 in Bavaria, Germany; died on 18 Jan 1944 in Brown County, Minnesota; was buried in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm, Brown County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
