Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Margaret GRAHAM was born in Oct 1869 in England (daughter of George GRAHAM and Margaret BAXTER).

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  George GRAHAM was born about 1838 in England; died on 9 Apr 1920 in Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

In the 1871 English census, George and family live on a small farm in Solport, East Cumberland, in the St. Mary Stapleton ecclesiastical district. The household consists of George, 32, Margaret, 20, James, 8, George, 6, Mary J, 5, and Margaret, 2.

    According to Pat:

“On June 12, 1876, the Graham family arrived in New York City, after traveling in steerage aboard “The City of Richmond”. They traveled from Liverpool to Queenstown (a common stopping-off point on the south coast of Ireland) to New York City, where they arrived on June 11 after a crossing of about 8 days. They sailed on the ship "The City of Richmond", a 4 ton, 3 mast, 2 funnel ship, which was built around 1873. According to the ship's manifest they were located below deck, which confirms Ethel's recollection that Mary Jane told her about traveling in "steerage". Of the passengers aboard the ship, about half were from England and half from Ireland. They arrived in New York City and were processed through the immigration station at Castle Garden, which was actually an island at that time but has now been surrounded by Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. Their destination is listed as New York. They aren't found on the 1880 census for New York so maybe they had traveled to Ontario by then. They do appear on the 1881 census for Enniskillen (Oil Springs) Ontario.

“George and his family appear in the 1881, 1891, 1901, and 1911 censuses for Enskillen Township (Oil Springs), Lambton County, Ontario.”

    Birth:
According to Pat, “The dates on George’s stone are 1838-1920 but I have another note that his birth date is January 30, 1839. Death certificate says June 30, 1838. George’s father’s name is listed as John Graham. April 9, 1920. Heart failure.”

George married Margaret BAXTER. Margaret was born about 1842 in England; died in 1923 in Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Margaret BAXTER was born about 1842 in England; died in 1923 in Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

Name from Anna Little’s death certificate. Confirmed by Pat. Margaret was George Graham’s second wife. According to Pat, “Between 1866-1869 George married Margaret Baxter. They had four more children before leaving England and five more after arriving in Ontario.”

    Birth:
According to Pat, “Margaret’s stone says 1841-1923 but I have her birth date as December 25, 1842.”
