In the 1920 census, the family is still in Portland. Ernest is a circulation manager for a newspaper.

In the 1930 census, the family is still in Portland. Ernest is still the circulation manager for a newspaper. They live in a house that they own that is worth $15,000 but they do not have a radio. The son S. Blake, 22, is still at home and has no occupation. The family employs a live-in servant.

In the 1940 census, they live at 3933 S E Oak in Portland, in the same house in which they lived in 1935. That house is worth $10,000. Ernest had four years of high school, Lily had three. The have a 50 year-old lodger named Selma Jorgenson living with them as a lodger. None of the three have an occupation although whatever it is that Selma does consumes 45 hours per week.

Ernest married Lily Ann LIGHTBOURN on 10 May 1898 in Ramsey County, Minnesota. Lily (daughter of Edward Soden LIGHTBOURN and Susan Samantha Hason MURRAY) was born about 1877 in Minnesota; died on 28 Jan 1952 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
