    Notes:

In the 1870 census, a 31 year-old Ira Cole, tinsmith, lives in St. Paul with his younger brother, a carriage-maker. The census page is very faint, nearly illegible.

In the 1880 census, he and his family lived in Shakopee, Scott County, Minnesota. He was a tinner for a railroad.

In the 1885 state census, he and his family lived in St. Paul.

In the 1895 state census, Ira Cole, age 58 and born in Illinois, employed as a copper smith, lives with his wife and family (except Martha) in St. Paul at 665 or 666 Jackson Street. Also in that census, a 55 year-old Ira Cole, a copper smith, lives in Minneapolis. No family lives with him.

In the 1900 census, a 63 year-old Ira Cole, born Mar 1837 in Illinois, a widower, was an “inmate” at the Minnesota Soldiers’ Home in Minneapolis.

In the 1910 census, the 73 year-old Ira Cole, still married to his second wife, is a “head waiter” at the Minnesota Soldiers’ Home.

His death certificate notes that he was a GAR veteran and a tinsmith. His address at death was 184 Maria and his wife’s name was Martha. (Either his first wife was Martha or else there was some confusion due to his dying at the home of his daughter Martha.) He died from TB. He was buried at Oakland Cemetery.
