8. | Knud Iversson ELTUN was born about 1817 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway (son of Ivar Trondsen BREKKE and Anne Knudsdatter ELTUN); died on 17 Mar 1894 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway; was buried on 30 Mar 1894 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway. Notes:
Born in Eltun 13/3, nedre. Resided in Bøkkadn 33/3 av Ellingbø. Died as Knut Iversen Ellingbö.
Trond I Uvdal (se faren Ivar Uvdal) overtok i 1850.
Livaursfolket Øystein og Ambjørg bodde her. Med skylddeling 7.10.1867 og 25.4.1868 ble gården delt i fire parter:
grn.: 33/3 Bøkkadn (Bøkko)
gnr.: 33/4 Fagerli (senere hotellet)
Translated:
He was first at Eltun 13/1 1851-1863. He moved to Ellingbø 33/2 Bøkko in 1868. At Eltun he was a postman. He got Eltun when he got married, but sold the farm to Ivar I Uvdal (1862-1909) in 1863. They say that it was Embrik and Helge Ellingbø who bought Bøkkadn, who was then just separated with his own number by Trond Ellingbø and sold half on to Knut. and that Jond Endresen Ellingbø and Torstein, Helge's son, each took over half. But in the records after Yngve Ellingbø it says that Knut bought the farm from Trond I Ellingbø, because their livestock was killed by a bear and that they therefore went to the USA.
It is true that the bear ravaged quite a lot at that time, and that may be why they went to the USA, but in the state archives at Hamar there are documents that can tell the following:
Trond I Uvdal (see father Ivar Uvdal) took over in 1850. They had 8 children, and went to the United States with all the children who lived in 1862. They also took the children of their daughter Velgjerd (She had two children out of wedlock). The farm was then divided into 3 sub-farms, 2 under homesteads under Baggetun and one under the northern farm of Ellingbø 33/1.
The people of Øystein and Ambjørg lived here. With divisions dated 7.10.1867 and 25.4.1868 the farm was divided into four parts:
grn .: 33/3 Bøkkadn (Bøkko)
gnr .: 33/4 Fagerli (later the hotel)
grn .: 31/1 Haugadn (which Bøland leases, rents or uses)
and grn .: 31/2 Grindaheim (closed hotel on the lower side of the national road, But which has given the name to the hotel on Fagerlid). The majority after the division was Bokko.
Knut cannot therefore have bought the farm directly from the owners who were affected by bears. No documentation has been found that the whole herd was killed by a bear, but a protocol from 1860 states that two heifers and a calf were killed by "bears on the farm Grov by Helin that summer."
