He died of a heart attack at the home of his daughter Opal Olson. He had been visiting at the Olson home since November.

She was a 72 year-old widow in the 1895 state census and the 77 year-old widow Maren Qualy living with Anders and Anna in Kerkhoven Twp in the 1900 census. In that 1900 census, she is erroneously shown as having had only one child.

The Quale Family Tree on Ancestry has her dying in Minnesota in January of 1903.
