In the 1895 Minnesota census, the family lived in Benson in Swift County where they had been for 2 years and 10 months. In the 1920 and 1940 censuses, she was Elizabeth Zimkoski, a 57 year-old widow living in Delano with her 24 year-old son Fred. In the 1940 census, she is shown as having been educated through the first grade.

The family name may have been Fautz.

Cheryl’s source says that Brinitz, the town where the Fautches may have come from, was Brinnitz, Kries Oppeln, Prussia. The village is named Brynica, Opole, Poland today. Historically, this is part of Upper Silesia which consisted of both German speakers and Polish speakers.

Another source has the Fautsches originating from Hirschfelde, Poland.

He, as Balthasar Fautsch, 57, came to the U.S. with his family in 1868 from Germany. They arrived in New York (Castle Garden) on June 2nd aboard the S.S. Borussia which had departed Hamburg May 16th. The family consisted of Balthasar, 57, Eva, 43, Rochus, 19, Mathias, 16, Joseph, 14, Franz, 7, Johanna, 6, Elsie, 5, and Francesca, 3.

In the 1875 state census, he and his family live in Franklin Twp, Wright County. All seven children are still single and living at home.

    Notes:

Called Neva in the 1900 census. In that census, she is shown as having had 8 children, 7 still living. If Frank died in 1892, as is shown here, then that extra child must have been born in Poland and was still alive (either in Poland or the U.S., having come over separately) as of 1900.

One source (Elizabeth’s death record) shows her name as Frances Freemark.
