His baptismal sponsors were Marit Pedersdatter Hande, Thora Pedersdatter Hande, Halvor Johannessen Hande, Knud Halvorsen Viighagen, and Anders Rolandson Jomen.

Ole lived in Sunburg. He was married to Dorthea at the time of his death. She was the informant for his death certificate. He died from pneumonia and senility.

OLE HALVORSON HANDE & DOROTHEA O. SONDROL, Charter Members of West Norway Lake Lutheran Church
Ole Halvorson Hande was the son of Halvor Pederson Torstad-Hande (1803-1875) and Barbro Nilsdatter Hoyne (1805- 1882). He was born May 4, 1844 on the Øvre Hande farm Slidre Parish, Vestre Slidre, Oppland, Norway. Ole had four older brothers and two sisters all of whom along with their parents would eventually migrate to America.
Despite being the youngest brother, Ole was the first to leave for America arriving in 1865. Eventually he made it to Rice County, Minnesota where he married Dorothea O. Sondrol on January 1, 1872. Dorothea was born on September 30, 1848 in Vang, Valdres, Norway. Her parents were Tosten and Marit Sondrol.
Ole’s brother Halvor Halvorson Hande along with his family and parents migrated to America in 1869 and settled near Norway Lake in what is today section 13 of Arctander Township. That may have been the reason for brother Ole and his wife to move to the Sunburg area which it appears they did some time in the 1870s. They settled on a farm in Kerkhoven Township in Swift County and became members of the newly constructed West Norway Lake Lutheran Church just south of Sunburg.
Ole and Dorothea had ten children
the oldest of whom was Bestsy M. Hande (1872-1952) who married John Hystad (1869-1944).
Daughter Marit O. Hande (1873-1926) married Louis Pilstrom (1871-1954) at the West Norway Lake Church,
moved to Minneapolis where they are buried in Lakewood Cemetery.
Halvor Oleson Hande (1875-1902) never married and died at the age of twenty-five.
Anna O. Hande (1877-1919) married Theodore Frovold (1875-1930) and remained in the Sunburg area their
entire lives.
Ingeborg O. Hande and Tosten O. Hande were twins born on June 6, 1879. They lived only a few months.
Ingeborg died on April 23, 1880 and Tosten on September 15, 1880.
Belle Hande was born June 25, 1881, married William Wenzel and settled in the Fargo, N. D. area.
Tosten O. Hande (1883-1975) married Louise Flolo (1887-1980)and lived in the local area all their lives.
Oloff O. Hande (1885-1916) never married and died young at age 30.
Ole and Dorothea’s last child was daughter Dena born May 25, 1877. Dena only reached her ninth year and died
on April 18, 1896.
Betsy and John Hystad, Halvor, Anna and Theodore Frovold, the twins Ingeborg and Tosten, Tosten and Louise Hande, Oloff and Dena are buried at the West Norway Lutheran Cemetery. Ole Halvorson Hande died on November 21, 1925. His wife Dorothea died on January 2, 1933. They are both buried at the West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery near Sunburg where Ole was a charter member.

Dorthe (daughter of Torstein Knudsen SØNDROL and Marit Olsdatter SYNDROL) was born on 30 Sep 1848 in Vang i Valdres, Oppland, Norway; died on 2 Jan 1933 in Sunburg, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota; was buried in West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Sunburg, Norway Lake Twp, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Called Dorthe Thorstajnsdatter in the 1865 Norwegian census.

In the 1875 Minnesota census, she seems to have been called Berthe. She and her husband Ole H. and their family live in Kerkhoven Twp, Swift County. Next on the census form listing is her brother Knut and his family (and whose household contains their mother.)

Eugene has her marrying Ole H. Hande. That Ole H Hande was living in Kerkhoven Twp in the 1885 Minnesota census.

Dorothy was the widow of Ole. She had been in Sunburg for 12 years and 66 years in the U.S. She died from bronchitis and influenza complicated by senility. The informant for her death certificate was John Hystad of Sunburg.

A Halvor Pedersen, age 15, son of Peder somebody, was confirmed in Slidre on 2 Aug 1818 in Røns church. The record suggests that he was baptized in a home baptism on Hande and that his father was born in Tordstad.

On Handemÿren at the time Guri was born.

In the 1865 census, he is 62 and his wife Barbro is 61. He is gbr on Hande 99a in Vestre Slidre. Living with them are their daughters Ingeborg, 18, and Guri, 25, Peder Halvorsson, 31 (presumably the son of Halvor and Barbro), Gunhild Reiersdatter, 25, wife of Peder, and their sons, Halvor Pederson and Reier Pederson, ages 6 and 2. Finally, as Føderaadskone, is Ingrid Halvorsdatter, 76, and unmarried (apparently never married).

In the 1875 state census, he and Barbro were living with their son Ole H. in Swift County, Minnesota. They were shown, incorrectly, as ages 58 and 60, respectively.

Barbro was born in 1806 in Vestre Slidre i Valdres, Oppland, Norway; died on 23 Dec 1882 in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota; was buried on 30 Dec 1882 in East Norway Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery, Pennock, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. She is probably Marit Olsdatter Syndrol, I17705 in Jim’s VS. That is assumed here and is consistent with the bygdebok (Vang A, p.828).

Eugene shows Knut as having three sisters: Dorthea, Marit, and ?. The 1865 Norwegian census, at which time Marit Olsdatter was a widow on Viland øvre in Vang, Knud and Dorthe (b. 1848) were the only two children living with Marit.

She was living wih Knut and Marit in Kerkhoven Twp in the 1875 census.

An 88 year-old Marit, born in Norway, is living with Knut and Julia in Kerkhoven Twp in the 1895 Minnesota state census.

Altarking’s Tarbox Family Tree incorrectly calls her Maren Evensdatter. (Maren E gave birth to an Ole on 22 Oct 1832. The father was Tosten Olsen Søndre-Bøe.)

Han fikk skjøte av broren Asbjørn den 8.7.1894 for 349 rd. Asbjørn hadde selv gitt 259 rd for gården i 1791. Her var det altså ikke snakk om søsken rabatt, eller så var inflasjonen så sterk på den tiden.

Ola og Dorte har også barna: KNUT (1797-1868) gm Dorte Persdtr Flaten (1809-1843) de hadde barna: Dorte, Ola og Per som alle døde små eller i ungdomsårene. Knut ga gården videre til broren Torstein som hadde vært husmann på Kletto så lenge Knut drev gården. Ågot (1800-1801) Ågot (1801-1885) ugift, døde på Lajord JOHANNES (1804- ) han var innerst på Syndrol før han dro til USA med kona Marit Øysteindtr Myreeiga som han giftet seg med i 1857. de hadde barna OLA (1857- ) og Knut (1859- ) da de reiste. OLA (1810- 12.1.1831)

Ola var vanfør. En hest hadde slått istykker det ene benet hans da han var liten, så han måtte ligge i 7 år. Mens han lå spikket han skjeer, sleiver og leker til ungene, spesielt var han flink til å spikke hester med sleder. På Øylo hotell ble dis se sakene hans solgt til god pris. Han lagde også feler og spilte selv endel på fele, uten at han ble noen mesterspillemann.

Da han kom opp av senga lærte han seg skomakeryrket av Andris Olsen Bø i Budgomshaugen under Sørre Bø. (Andris var en meget kjent skomaker og emisær).

På Olas tid reiste skomakerne rundt på gårdene og satt der og sydde skoene. Arbeidstiden var fra 5 om morgenen til 9 om kvelden. Fra 1902 fikk han seg skomakermaskin med rullefot (ikke trykkfot), Ola lagde pinnesko, når han en sjelden gang lagde "springsko" kjøpte han ferdig ovenpålær. Han lagde en hel del sko av fettlær, som han selv smurte og beredde.

Han to 80 øre paret pluss "manns kost". Hvis han lagde skoene hjemme tok han 1 krone.
