Joyce Kilde, 71, of Dilworth, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

She was born July 28, 1928, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Thor and Gladys (Olson) Trosvik. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She grew up in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1946.

On June 24, 1947, she married Les Kilde at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mrs. Kilde worked as a secretary for Otter Tail Power Company, Park Region Bakery and the 7-UP Bottling Company. She also worked with her family at L & K Saw Sharpening Company of Dilworth. She enjoyed reading, needlework and spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, who died on Aug. 12, 1999; and a son, Kent Kilde who died on May 9, 1999.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Charles) Ladwig of Elbow Lake; a daughter-in-law, Sarita Kilde of Dilworth; six grandchildren, Daniel Ladwig of Fergus Falls, Teresa (Dan) Tweeton of Eagan, Delcy Ladwig of Fergus Falls, Andrew Ladwig of Crookston, Prudance and Patrick Kilde both of Dilworth; and two great-grandsons, Ian and Christopher Ladwig both of Fergus Falls.

In the 1865 Norwegian census as Karstein Engebretssen, age 15, born in Aamot. Confirmed by the Aamot birth register which shows a Carsten Engebretsen born 7 Nov 1850 (and baptized 5 Jan 1851) to Engebret Bergsvensvien (sp?), apparently of Kilde, and Inger Tollefsdatter. Sponsors for the baptized child appear to be Gunder Gudmandsen, Niels Gudmandsen of Kilde, Margrethe Olsdatter of Kilde, and Oliana Gundersdatter of Kilde.

In the 1895 state census, Carsten, Jennie, Emelie, and 78 year-old Berta Olson (perhaps Jennie’s mother?) are living in Effington Twp, Otter Tail County.

Farming in Elmo Twp, Otter Tail County, at the time of the 1900 census. He came to the U.S. in 1882, his wife Jennie in 1885.

In the 1905 state census they are in Elmo Twp. Carsten has been a resident of the state for 20 years but only 7 years and 8 months in the local district. Jennie has been in the state for 18 years, 16 years and 10 months in the local district.

One source has her middle name Jorgine. Referred to as Jennie on Joseph’s birth certificate. One source has her last name as Peterson although most of her childrens’ death certificates (except Joseph’s and Annie’s which show Peterson) show Johnson.

In the 1900 census, she had had 4 children, all 4 still living.

According to the 1910 census, she had had 9 children, 8 of whom were still living. She came to this country in 1886.

In the 1920 census she is a widow living in Elmo Twp with her five youngest sons, all single.

The informant for her death certificate was her son John Kilde. She died from apoplexy caused by hypertension.
