In the 1895 census, he and his wife Anna, 26, lived in Warsaw Twp, Goodhue County, Minnesota, very near the Henry Sviens (on one side) and his mother and siblings (on the other).

Listed as a widower, living with his mother and siblings, in the 1900 census.

In the 1910 census, he is a farmer in Lien Twp, Grant County, Minnesota, living with his wife Lovise J., 26, and their children Johny E., 5, and Edward, 2. The couple had been married for 6 years.

In the 1920 census, he is a drayman living with his family in the village of Dennison in Goodhue County.

In the 1930 census, he was a 60 year-old widower in Warsaw Twp living with his children Edward, 22, Beatrice M., 15, and Vernon L., 10.

His obituary was in the Faribault Daily News:

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 19, at the Vang Church east of Dennison for Erick Svien who passed away at the Mineral Springs Sanatorium, July 15, at the age of 78 years. The Reverend Adolph Egge officiated. Pallbearers were: Clarence, John and Bernard Svien, Iver and Erick Ellingboe and Melvin Kasa. Mrs. Adolph Egge sang two songs at the service. Interment was at the Vang cemetery. Erick Svien was born in Warsaw township on Nov. 20, 1869. He was the son of the late John and Betsy Svien, pioneer residents of the community. On December 15, 1921, he was united in marriage to Lavina Johnson, also of this neighborhood. To them were born four children: John of Farmington, Mrs. Ed Kimbrel (Beatrice) of St. Paul, Vernon of St. Peter and Edward of Cannon Falls. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Tasa and three grandchildren. Mr. Svien spent his whole life in this community and leaves a large number of friends.

Erik married Lovina JOHNSON about 1904. Lovina was born about 1884 in Minnesota; died on 21 Feb 1929 in Goodhue County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Both of her parents were born in Germany. Called Vina Johnson on her son John’s birth certificate. She was 25 years old according to that birth certificate.

In the 1900 census, she is a widow living as head of household in Warsaw, Goodhue County, with her children Erik, Johanna and Anders. She is shown as having had 10 children, 5 still living. She is also shown to have come to this country in 1853. Her next door neighbor is Thomas Soine and family.
