In the 1880 census, he may be the 17 year-old Liss Hopper, “brother-in-law”, living in Coloma in Waushara County, Wisconsin. His father was born in New Jersey, his mother in Pennsylvania.

The Whiteley family tree calls him Ulysses Warren Hopper, born 18 Oct 1863 in Coloma and dying in 1940 in Alberta.

In the 1900 census, a Ulysses W Hopper, b. June 1864 in Wisconsin, is a single farmer in Benson County, North Dakota. The parents of that Ulysses had been born in Norway.

In the 1906 Canadian provincial census, a 41 year-old Ulysses Hopper lived in Saskatchewan.
