Betty May ARONSON

Betty M. Langord, age 92 of Lakeville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 3, 2019.

Betty was born on January 6, 1927 to Richard and Sophie (nee: Bergstrom) Aronson. She graduated from Lakeville High School in 1944. Betty attended Minneapolis School of Business and early in her career was assistant to the Secretary of North American Life and Casualty Insurance.  She retired from Marquette Bank in Lakeville after 25 years.

Betty loved playing bridge and was in two bridge clubs for 50+ years.  She also loved golf and dancing.  Betty came from a family of singers and loved many kinds of music, especially 30s-40s and swing. She had a heart for service and was a Befriender and brought communion to shut-ins who were a part of her church community, St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Mardell Blaufarb, Mary Lou Ruh and Glenn Aronson. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Glenn “Barney”; daughters, Catherine (David) Langord Wall and Laurie Langord (Doug Grove); 7 grandchildren, Nathan, Daniel (Jen), Julie, Kate, Carolyn (Leo), and Sten (Sarah); great-granddaughter, Jannike, brothers-in-laws, Gerry Blaufarb and Lyle Ruh; sister-in-law, Barb Aronson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In the 1940 census, he and his family lived in Eureka Twp in Dakota County, Richard’s father’s farm (or at least the same house in which Andrew Aronson had lived in 1935). Richard’s father, Andrew, a 67 year-old widower, lives with Richard and his family. Five years earlier, Richard and family had lived in Scott County.

Notes:

Ole was a farmer in New Market Twp. He came to the U.S. in 1882 according to the 1900 census.

In the 1910 census, Hans, Henry, Joseph, and Sophia were still living at home.

In the 1930 census Ole and Betsy were living in the village of Elko, New Market Twp, Scott County, not far from Martin Tonsager, a widower with a 6 year-old daughter, and Ole and Betsy’s son John. Ole came to the U.S. in 1875 and his wife in 1876.

He seems to be Ola Nilsen Haugen, I25645, in Jim’s VS. For that entry, there is no further information on Ole’s wife or children. However, the VS entry shows Ole’s parents to be Nils Olsen Helle and Berit Håvardsdatter Helle.

He’s simply Ole Nelson in the French Family Tree.

The bygdebok (p. 787) calls him Ola Nilsson Tørstadeiga. He was called Ole Nilsen Ellingbø in the church book entry for Nel’s birth. He was called Ole Nielson Kattevold in the entry for Anders’s birth and for Helge’s birth and for the family’s emigration record.

Shown as Ole Nielsson in the 1865 Norwegian census. He was a “husmand med jord og smed” on the Grunkø farm in Hoved subparish in Vang parish. He was 38, his wife Sigri Olsdatter was 31, and they had two sons: Niels, 7, and Ole, 3. Grunkø, aka Grunke or Grunketeigen, was a husmannplassen under Øvre Kattevøl.

Emigrated from Vang in 1876. The departing family is listed as Ole Nielsen Kattevold, b. 2 Jun 1826, Sigrid Olsdatter, b. 15 Dec 1834, Niels, b. 14 Mar 1859, Ole, b. 25 Aug 1863, Berit, b. 26 Sep 1867, Helge, b. 18 Nov 1870, and Anders, b. 25 May 1874.

In the 1885 state census, the family is in New Market. The household consists of Ole Nelson, 60, Sahra, 50, Nels, 25, Ole O., 20, Henry O., 14, Andrew, 10, and Basy, 17.

In the 1895 census, the family lives near the Ellingboes in New Market. The household consists of Ole, 70, Sigri, 60, Nels, 35, Ole, 31, Andrew, 21, Ole, 5, born in Dakota, and Henry, 6 months, born in Minnesota. Ole and his family had been in the state for 19 years, in the present enumeration district for 18 years.

In the 1900 census, he and his family are still in New Market. The household consists of Ole Nailson, 74 (b. June 1826), Sara, 65 (b. Dec 1834), Ole O., 36 (b. Aug 1863), Andrew, 26 (b. May 1874), Nails, 41 (b. 1859), Ole, nephew, 10 (b. Jan 1890), and Henry, nephew, 4 (b. Dec 1895). The youngest Ole had been born in Dakota, Henry in Minnesota, and everyone else in Norway. Sara had had 8 children, 4 still living. Ole and Sara had been married for 41 years. The family had come to the U.S. in 1876.
