Registered for the draft on September 17, 1918, in Ada, Norman County, Minnesota where he was a self-employed dealer in farm produce in Twin Valley. His nearest relative was Mathilde Heiberg of Twin Valley. He was described as of medium height and stout build with blue eyes and dark hair.

A 24 year-old Martin A. Heiberg is living in Yellowstone County, Montana in the 1910 census. He is a salesman for a nursery company. The family includes Matilda, 24, Arthur B., 4, Viola M., 2, and Francis M., a son, 2 months. The two oldest children were born in North Dakota.

In the 1920 census, Martin and his family live in the village of Twin Valley in Norman County, Minnesota. Martin is an implement merchant. All eight children are still at home.

In the 1930 census, Martin is a salesman for a potato warehouse in Valley City, Barnes County, North Dakota. His two oldest children have left home but the other eight children are living with him and Mathilda in Valley City.

In the 1885 state census, he and Augusta lived in Twin Valley, Wild Rice Twp, Norman County.

Living with the Sverdrups in the 1880 census (despite the entry in the 1900 census that he emigrated in 1881 and the claim in the 1895 state census that he had been in the state for 14 years).

Living in Wild Rice Township, Norman County, MN, in the 1900 census. The family was: Jorgen, 38, is a miller (the same occupation he had in 1880). The rest of his family is Augusta, 32, George S., Martin, Elsie, Kristen, Andreas, Rasmus, and Maria. Also living with the family is Maria Slattebak, 70, Augusta’s mother, and Ludvika, 36, Augusta’s sister.

The family is still in Wild Rice Twp in the 1910 census. George has married and moved out. Martin is not listed with the family. The family has a 27-year-old single man named Odd K. Heiberg (#13342), born in Norway, living with them.

In the 1910 census, there were four Heiberg orphans at the Wild Rice Lutheran Orphan Home in Flom Twp, Norman County. These children were Lettie, 10, Elsie, 5, Henry, 6, and John, 2. Their parents were born in Norway. Lettie was born in Minnesota and the three younger children were born in Canada. (A 19 year-old Lettie Marie Heiberg, born in Wisconsin, is a servant for the Bolstad family in Garfield Twp, Polk County, in the 1920 census.)

In the 1920 census, Jorgen and family are still in Wild Rice Twp. Jorgen is now a power plant operator.

In the 1930 census Jorgen and Augusta and their single children Rasmus, Olaf, Joseph, and Anna are living in the village of Twin Valley in Norman County. Jorgen has no occupation.

Jørgen married Augusta SLETTEBAK on 18 Jan 1885. Augusta (daughter of Maria) was born on 3 Jun 1868 in Skodje, Møre og Romsdal, Norway; died on 21 Nov 1952 in Nobles County, Minnesota; was buried in Zion Cemetery, Twin Valley, Norman County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The family was living at 7-21a in the Nykirkens Sogn quarter of Bergen at the time of the 1865 census. Andreas is shown as the “house owner.” His occupation is shown as Kjøbmand (merchant). The household has 22 people: Andreas’s sister, born in 1818, Andreas, his wife, their 7 children, and 12 “tjenestetyende.”
