William was a hardware merchant living in the village of Kerkhoven, Pillsbury Twp, Swift County, Minnesota, at the time of the 1900 census.

In the 1885 Minnesota census, W H Merryman and family were living in Pillsbury Twp, Swift County, Minnesota, with post office address Kerkhoven. His wife’s name is Katchell, age 22, born in Norway. His daughter is Mable, age 1.

In the 1895 census, he is shown as dealing in hardware and lumber. He and Rachel had been in Minnesota for 13 years. C. L. Merryman, a photographer who had been in the state for 4 years, was living with them in 1895.

William and Rachel were living with their widowed daughter Ella and family in the 1930 census. They lived next door to Grace and Herbert in the village of Kerkhoven.

William married Rachel LIEN on 26 Feb 1883 in Swift County, Minnesota. Rachel (daughter of Ole Knudsen TØRSTAD and Anne Olsdatter FRAMSTAD) was born on 14 Dec 1861 in Calmar, Winneshiek County, Iowa; died on 31 Oct 1934 in Swift County, Minnesota; was buried on 3 Nov 1934 in Kerkhoven, Swift County, Minnesota. In the 1880 census, as Rachel Lain, she was 18 and boarded with a family in Minneapolis. She worked in a cotton mill. Also boarding with her and also working in a cotton mill was the 16 year-old Mary Lain.

In the 1885 state census, she is shown as born in Norway.

In the 1900 census, she had had 8 children, 5 still living. Those numbers are 9 and 5 in the 1910 census.

In Grace’s death certificate, Rachel’s maiden name is Ellingboe. In Wallace’s birth certificate, Rachel’s maiden name is Lein. In Ella’s death certificate, Rachel’s maiden name is Lien. On Rachel’s death certificate, her father’s name is Ole Olson Lien.

She died of heart failure. The informant for her death certificate was H A Hoglund of Kerkhoven.

Called Ola Knutsson Nygard in the Vang C bygdebok, p. 284, an entry which incorrectly has him born in 1833.

The record of his marriage to Anne Olsdatter Framstad on 22 Apr 1855, shows him as Ole Knüdsën Nÿgaard, age 31, son of Knud Thomassen, and her as age 21, daughter of Ole Olsen.

The birth record for his first son Knud also shows him as Ole Knüdsën Nÿgaard. The birth record for his son Ole shows him as Ole Knudsen Garstad.

The Johnson Family Tree on Ancestry calls him Ole Knudsen Lien and has him born 16 Dec 1823 in Vang and dying in Iowa in 1864.
