      Registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Spokane, Washington, as Carl Gilbertson. There was a note on the card that said that his local board was “Wallace” in some illegible county in Idaho. At that time, he was still a “declared alien” and not a citizen of the U. S. He gave his permanent address as the Como Hotel in Spokane but there was a note on the card that said “Mail at Wallace, Idaho” and he gave his occupation as woodsman for the Turner Lumber Company at Tammany Mine, Montana. He listed his nearest relative as George Karlsrud of Neves, Minnesota. He was described as tall and of medium build with blue eyes and light hair.

      In the 1920 census, Carl Gilbertson, age 35, is a headman at the Saddler Canyon Lumber Camp in the Priest River Precinct of Bonner County, Idaho. He had come to the U.S. in 1902.

      In the 1930 census, Carl Gilbertson, age 45, is a laborer in woods work at the Ohio Match Company’s boarding houses in the Metaline precinct of Pend Oreille County, Washington. He had come to the U.S. in 1902.

      He registered for the World War II draft in 1942. At that time, he lived at 1424 W Wilson Avenue in Spokane. He worked for an employer in Orofino, Idaho. He gave, as the “person who will always know your address,” W. J. Johnson of Orofino, Idaho.

      He may be the Carl Gilbertson, age 64, who died in Spokane, Washington, on 10 Jan 1949.
