He should have been the heir to Skøre. Instead, 34/1 went to Bøye, the next surviving son.

Brad’s notes, regarding conversations he had with relatives in Norway, refers to Ole as “Ole Ellingboe in the Cities.” Ole was a frequent visitor to the Ole and Albert Ellingboe farms in Lakeville. These visits may have been accompanied by visits to Selma Nelson, a neighbor of the Ellingboes and a sister of “Ole the plumber”’s first wife.

He may be the 22 year-old Ole O Ellingboe who arrived in New York and passed through Ellis Island.

In the 1901 Minneapolis city directory, Ole is living with Jøger at 1425 East Franklin.

In the 1903 Minneapolis city directory, he is probably the Ole Ellingboe, a laborer for J H McGuire, living at 521 12th Ave S.

In the 1905 census, Ole, Mary, and Theodore live in Minneapolis. Ole is a plumber. Living with them is Ole’s 35 year-old aunt Randi Ellingboe, a dressmaker.

In the 1909 Minneapolis city directory, he is Ole O Ellingboe, a foreman for Ireland-Simmons Co., living at 2007 22nd Avenue South.

In the 1910 city directory, he is Ole Ellingbo, a foreman for Ireland-Simmons Co, residing at 2009 22nd Avenue S.

In the 1910 census, Ole and the three kids, Theodore, Oscar, and Inga, live at 2104 22nd Avenue in Minneapolis. Ole is a widower. Living with the family is Linette Engdahl, a 19 year-old servant, recently arrived from Norway.

In the 1916 Minneapolis city directory, he is Ole Ellingboe, a foreman for C A Simmons. He rooms at 811 12th Avenue S.

Ole registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Minneapolis as Ole Olson Ellingboe. He lived at 4428 44th Avenue South. He was a plumber for Conner Brothers of 711 6th Avenue North in Minneapolis. He gave as his nearest relative Mary Bekken, sister, 6058 17th Street in Minneapolis. Ole was of medium height and build with blue eyes and reddish brown hair.

In the 1918 Alien Registration, he was Ole Ellingbo, age 38, of Minneapolis.

He is listed in “The Valdris Book”, a history of the Valdris Samband published in 1920 (available on Google Books), as “Ole Ellingboe Minneapolis.” He was a member of the Samband from 1902 to 1916.

In the 1919 city directory, he is a plumber and boards at 4428 44th Avenue S.

In the 1920 census, Ole, a widower, is living with the Henry Hanson family of 4428 44th Avenue S. in Minneapolis. He is shown as “nephew” along with his 13 year-old son Oscar who is also living with the Hansons. Ole was born in Norway and came to the U.S. in 1901. Ole is a plumber.

Ole, of 4428 44th Avenue in Minneapolis, was listed as the nearest relative of Harry Olson Ellingboe on Harry’s draft registration.

Seemingly related here is Bertha Ellingboe, b. ca 1896, in Norway, a tailoress, who lives with Conrad and Mary Hanson of 4420 43rd Avenue S. in Minneapolis. Conrad Hanson and Henry Hanson both work at a bag factory. (That Bertha is, apparently, #10692, the daughter of Anders Tollefson and Ingeborg Olsdatter.)

In the 1924 Minneapolis city directory, he is Ole Ellingboe, helper, residing at 923 Chicago Avenue, flat 1.

In the 1927 Minneapolis city directory, he is Ole Ellingboe, plumber, residing at 929 Chicago Avenue, apartment 1.

In the 1928 Minneapolis directory, he is probably the Ole Ellingboe living at 736 E 18th.

In the 1930 census, Ole is a lodger at a rooming house in Minneapolis. He is a plumber for an illuminating company.

In the 1930 Minneapolis city directory, he is Ole O Ellingboe, a caulker for Minneapolis Gas Light Company. He resides at 818 East 18th, apartment 9.

In the 1932 Minneapolis city directory, he and Bertha live at 1728 Elliot Avenue, apartment 6. He is a caulker for the Minneapolis Gas Light Co.

In the 1935 and 1936 and 1938 Minneapolis city directories, he and Bertha live at 3209 20th Avenue S. His occupation is caulker for the Minneapolis Gas Light Co.

In the 1940 census, he and Bertha live at 3209 20th Avenue in south Minneapolis, a house that owns that is worth $4000. Ole is a caulker for an illuminating gas plant. This is the same house in which they both had lived five years earlier.

In the 1948 Minneapolis city directory, he is a mechanic for MGL. He and Bertha live at 3209 20th Avenue S.

He is the Ole Ellingboe, age 69, arriving in New York on September 20, 1948, aboard the S.S. Stockholm which had departed from Gothenburg, Sweden, on September 11th. Ole’s address is shown as 3209 20th Avenue South in Minneapolis. His U.S. passport was #159040.

He died leaving a widow Bertha who was the informant for his death certificate. According to that death certificate, Ole was a plumber/steam fitter for the Minneapolis Gas Company. His death date was qualified by “found” so he may have died at his residence, 3209 20th Avenue South, and Bertha may not have been living with him. His cause of death was coronary disease.

In the 1910 Norwegian census, as Marit Olsdatter Skøre, she is unmarried and living with her mother and siblings on Skøre 34/1.

She arrived in New York on April 3, 1915, aboard the S.S. Kristianiafjord which had departed Bergen on March 25th. Marit was single, age 25, occupation domestic. She gave her brother Böye Ellingboe of Vang, Valders, as her nearest relative in the country she had come from. She was traveling with her cousin Berit Andersdatter (10692).

Her obit said that she had lived in Minneapolis for 49 years and was a member of Central Lutheran Church.

Marith married Gullick BAKKEN on 17 May 1917 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. According to Bjørn (per Brad), Bøye began using the surname Skøre to expedite the mail. Skøre is the name of the farm which is a part of the old Ellingbø.

In the 1916 Minneapolis city directory, he is Harry Ellingboe, a baker for Excelsior Baking Co., residing at the Hansons’ home (Harry’s aunt) at 4428 44th Avenue S. Also living at that same address was Ollie Ellingboe, a machinist at Excelsior Baking Co., who may be Harry’s brother Tollef (Tollie?). Listed elsewhere in the 1916 directory is Ole Ellingboe, the plumber (#6236), another of Harry’s brothers, who will eventually also come to live with the Hansons by the time of the 1920 census.

Harry registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Grand Rapids. He was born in Norway apparently. He listed his nearest relative as Ole Ellingboe (see #6236). Harry was a crane operator and electrician with the Olson (or Oliver) Iron Mining Company of Coleraine, Itasca County. Harry was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and dark hair.

In the 1920 census, Harry (as “Illenbo”) is a lodger with the Gullick and Mary Bakken (his sister) family at 757 8th Avenue South in Minneapolis. Harry came to the U.S. in 1916 and is a bookkeeper at a bank.

In the 1920 Minneapolis city directory, he is Harry Ellingboe, bookkeeper for the Harriet State Bank. He rooms at 757 8th Avenue S.

In the 1920 directory, he is still bookkeeper for the Harriet State Bank. He lives at 615 S 9th.

In the 1923 St. Paul city directory, he is a bookkeeper for Bannon’s. He lives at 229 Spruce.

In the 1924 St. Paul directory, he is still a bookkeeper for Bannon’s Dept. Store. He lives at 198 E 10th.

In the 1930 census, Harry is a baker in Minneapolis. He is a boarder with the Reuben Ericson family. He came to the U.S. in 1916.

In the 1930 Minneapolis city directory, he is Harry O Ellingboe, a helper at Paramount Pies Inc. He resides at 718 E 17th. That is, indeed, the address for Reuben R and Mabel Ericson. Reuben is a plumber for Bjorkman Bros.

He is included in the 1931 and 1932 St. Paul city directories as a helper for Paramount Pies Inc. He resides in Minneapolis.

In the 1932 Minneapolis city directory, he is a cook residing at 718 E 17th Street.

The 1933 St. Paul city directory lists him as a cook for Paramount Pies Inc. He resides in Minneapolis.

In the 1935 St. Paul city directory lists him as a fruit cook for Paramount Pies. He resides in Minneapolis.

In the 1937 Duluth city directory, he is a cleaner for N D Bort. He resides at 16 W 2nd.

In the 1940 census, he lived in Minneapolis as Harry Ellingboe, a 42 year-old single man born in Norway and having had two years of high school. He had lived in Duluth five years earlier. His occupation was bakers helper in a restaurant. He had earned $135 in 1939.

He registered for the draft on 14 Feb 1942 in Minneapolis. He worked for George Lundeen of Dassel, Minnesota.

In the 1948 Minneapolis city directory, he was Harry O Ellingboe, a factory worker for Bemis. He resided at 104 Washington Avenue S.

He may have been married to #10778 although his death certificate says that he never married. (The Vang bygdebok says that he was married.)

The informant for his death certificate was Mrs. Alice Schmitz of 4946 Sherman in Minneapolis. Harry was not a veteran. He died of pulmonary edema and pneumonia. He worked at Bemus Brothers. His usual residence at the time of death was Cook Home of Rice Lake Road, Duluth, which wouldn’t seem to be the address of St. Mary’s Hospital. The SSDI says last residence was Minneapolis.

His obituary was published on p. 11A:1 of the September 14, 1977, edition of the Duluth News-Tribune:

Harry O. Ellingboe, 80, Cook Home, died Sunday in a Duluth hospital. He was born in Norway and came to Duluth in 1962 from Minneapolis. He was a retired laborer. Surviving is a niece, Alice Schmitz, Minneapolis.

The Vang bygdebok says that he died in 1971 and was married twice: first to Karine Sveen, who died but with whom he had one son, and second to Astrid Sørbo.

In the 1916 Minneapolis city directory, he may be the Ollie Ellingboe, a machinist for Excelsior Baking Co., who resides with his brother Harry at the Hansons at 4428 44th Avenue S.

In the 1918 city directory, Ollie Ellingboe is a plumber for Sanitor Construction Co and still lives with the Hansons at 4428 44th Avenue S.

In the 1950 census, he may be the Theodore Ellingboe, age 50, who is a lodger with a family in Minneapolis. He works, irregularly apparently, as a cab driver. His marital status is “separated.” This Theodore is shown as having been born in Minnesota, however.
