In the 1938 Minot city directory, Matthew D Garnas, wife Evelyn M, lived at 704 8th NE. He was a department manager at Winston & Newell Co.

The 1940 Minot city directory notes that he moved to Williston.

In the 1940 census, he was married to Evelyn. They and their two children lived in Williston, North Dakota. Matthew was a supervisor at a retail grocery store.

In the 1949 Minot city directory, as Matt D, he and Marian lived at 801 1st NW. He was a manager of the Firestone store.
